Chapter 十三
Mismatched EyesThe day began as normal, only I now had a pet cat who happened to be the vessel for my uncle's soul. My eyes narrowed at him, practically trying to burn holes into him as I watched him struggle to break free of the bird cage of ice I had locked him in. "Let me out of here at once!"
"I will when you tell me why you are not dead." He took a moment to pause in his struggle to read my reply.
A scuff like sound came from him, though I'm pretty sure it was a hairball, before his mismatched eyes narrowed in a glare. "My dear niece, you should be happy to know that your own flesh and blood lived through such a tragedy."
"You tried to eat me."
"I'm also the only one who knows your pain."
Silence fell over the room, uncle now sitting back and pawing at his head like a normal cat would. My mind was itching to write out a comeback, but there was a small voice in the back of my mind that was whispering to me that he was right. The both of us were born with eyes of a complete heterochromia iridium; a right eye of ice and a left of garnet. I was treated like a cured slave, uncle Rido lost his claim to be head of the family; his sanity.
"You know I am right, little Ryda." His lean body curled into a ball as he spoke, sharp teeth showing as a yawn racked his small form. "I lost the love of my life and you, my dear niece, lost your precious voice." Another yawn fought its way out. "I simply wish to reclaim what I had lost, join me. When my strength has returned, I could return your voice. Your place as a Kuran child."
I stared down at him, my face unmoving to show any inch of emotions, uncle looking back up at with with one eye closed. "Either way, that doesn't explain one obvious thing."
"And what is that?"
"How did you get stuck in a cat?"
A groan escaped him, shocking me since I wasn't expecting the vocal cords of a cat to be able to produce such a sound. "I was trying to take over Senri's body... this stupid cat jumped in the way..."
That got a laugh to, soundlessly, bark out of me.
I left uncle to his nap, still in a cage of ice made from my abilities, so that I could get on with my life for at least the rest of my day. His words were eating away at my mind, the very idea of having my voice back was a temptation of the devil. To be able to speak words, to since the songs that Rhythm and Tsukuyomi had taught me many years ago.

Shaking my head free of the sinful thoughts, I kept my head up and my steps elegant. I couldn't let him get to my head. While walking, my shoulders bumped against someone else, causing the person to fall back and onto the ground.
Cursing at myself, I quickly scribbled an apology before extending out my hand for him. "I am so sorry, you are not hurt, I hope."
Dull, mismatched eyes met my own--my breath hitching in my throat at the sight of the brown haired boy. Messy, brown hair, a lean body, frosted grey right eye and pale amber-orange left eye. His right eye had two scars running through it, his left cheek caressed by an x-shaped scar. Even with scars littering his face, he was an attractive looking young man.
Waving a gloved hand, his voice came out much deeper than i had expected it to. "Don't worry about it, I was the one not watching where I was going." He accepted my hand as he spoke and stood up, the cool leather of his fingerless gloves had a good grip of my small hand. "My name is Hiro, I just transferred here."
Fighting back a blush when he flashed me an award-winning smile, I flipped through the pages of my notebook to find the page I was looking for to reply back to him. "Hi, my name is Ryda." I took notice to him wearing the Day Class uniform, a sinking feeling tugging at the corners of my smile.
Wait... why am I disappointed?! I just met this person. Snap out of it, Ryda.
"Well, I'll see you around." He reached over before pulling his hand away from me, the ribbon I had tied my hair with now undone and between his fingers. "Don't want to be caught out during curfew." With that I was left stunned and my hair down down and free to dance with the wind.
The wisp of a seductive giggle ghosted in the air as Hiro walked away, my hair ribbon in hand.
"Young love, I can taste the future stirring."
