Chapter 八
PeaceMy foot tapped impatiently as I glared down at the group of aristocrats that lined up before me. I had been walking around during my break only to stumble across Hana, Akatsuki, Ruka, even Senri and Rima were involved. For the past hour I have been lecturing them on what they had done and basically yelling at them, through paper of course, like a mother who had caught her child stealing candy. The room had also dropped in temperature significantly due to my powers blowing off when Hana tried to joke his way out of my scolding. 'ON TOP OFF YOUR ACTIONS BEING IMMATURE, I HAVE TO WRITE OFF ANOTHER REPORT! DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW MUCH OF A PAIN THAT IS, MY BOSS IS A STICKER FOR DETAILS WITH THESE REPORTS!' I was breathing heavily by the time I was done scolding.
"Now, now, I think everyone has truly taken up repentance." Takuma spoke from behind me, placing a hand on my shoulder to steady me on my feet. "Though I'm surprised Zero actually took on Aido's challenge like he did." The blonde looked over to the Kuran with a king complex as he voiced this, "Something must really be eating at that boy."
Without looking away from the windows, Mr. I'm-so-powerful answered to his friend's comment. "We can't help him, not now." I looked up at the full moon through the lattice windows as I listened to him speak. "That occurrence four years ago, changed his life forever."
He was speaking of the Pureblood attack on the famed Kiryu vampire hunter family, the one that left both parents dead, one child missing and the last to suffer with not only the memories, but also the fate of all who survive the bite of a Pureblood. A small shard of pity towards the shot tempered, silver haired boy shot through my heart for a fraction of a second. The knowledge that one can never go against the person, or people, who control you is something I understood all too well, which was why I also understood that pity was the last thing that was welcomed. Well, unless the person suffering is an attention seeker or a pitiful fool who can't stand on their own two feet that is.
Cranky from lack of sleep, having to write off another report, and now being woken up during the daylight hours, I grumpily sat on the couch while fiddling with a small bundle of dried forget-me-not flowers. A bittersweet smile was ghosting over my expression as a slew of memories flooded my mind as I continued to stare down at the blue flowers. It's that day of the year again... it has been fourteen years now... since that day. I was snapped out of my thoughts when Hana started whining.
"Surprise dorm inspection?!" He definitely was more annoyed with having to be woken up this early just to be informed about this over than the inspection itself.
Kuran just kept up his mask of indifference. "Very well then, thank you Seiren." Was all he said to the girl who acted as his bodyguard.
"What a pain." Ruka grumbled, "There's no predicting what the headmaster will do next."
Senri and Takuma just commented about how they didn't really care what was seen in their room, though I didn't really need to know about Takuma's boxers. A yawn escaped me as I stood up from the couch to head back to my room. "Going to get a little more sleep, Ry?" Rima asked me as I passed by, to which I answered with a nod before trucking back to my dorm.
I woke up again just in time to see Yuki pretend to trip only to grab something out of Zero's pocket. Now that was just being a brat. I thought to myself with a shake of my head in disapproval at the sight while continuing to watch as Zero swiped back what was stolen from him and stormed off. Well guess the inspection is called off now. Great, that means more sleep.
"Ah, she's as much of a spoiled brat here as she was back home." The voice of that mystery girl echoed in my room, making me shoot up in bed to look around frantically.
There was no one in my room, I couldn't sense another presence at all. I groaned at this before looking to my clock only to result in another groan. Man... I wanted to sleep some more, but nooooo class has to start in half an hour. Bleh.
Feeling annoyed, I tossed on my uniform and stomped out of my room to grab a quick glass of blood...tablets. Not going to lie, they taste disgusting. I found my way to the shared kitchen and fumbled around for a glass and the tablet box. The blood tablets and cups had all been put into the highest cupboard in the kitchen, whoever decided to do that is now dead to me.
While I was struggling to just open the cupboard I hadn't noticed that someone was in the kitchen and was making their way towards me. It was only when long arms reached around me to open the cupboard and then bring down a cup in front of my face had I noticed the presence of another person. Looking behind me was Akatsuki, his dull eyes staring down at me. "Here,"
I took the cup and held it in my hands as he dropped a few tablets into it for me before closing the cupboards. Placing down the cup I quickly wrote out my thanks on my notebook to him.
After reading it he just flashed me a small smile before reaching down to ruffle my hair. "It's no problem, after all you look out for Hanabusa quite a bit so this is my way of thanks for that." For a noble vampire, Akatsuki was mature and reserved. He held a sense of nobility that one could really respect; a very respectable man indeed.
I flashed him a smile as I poured some water into my cup and we both walked out of the kitchen to just sit and enjoy each other's company in the common room. We chatted while I doodled in my notebook, enjoying each other's company as if we were old friends--even if that wasn't the case.
"Is that a rabbit?" Akatsuki asked when he leaned over the back of my chair to look over my shoulder at my doodle.
My head dropped at this in dejection. 'It's a bear...'
