Chapter 七
Curse

My morning of February fourteen was restless as I was up writing reports to the Senate rather then sleeping. A solid two weeks has passed since I first came to the school, my time here seems to be passing by quickly. Hana and I were still as good friends as we were during that one encounter during our childhood, he would help me when he could and I would keep him from getting hit by Kuran. I had also become close to Asato's grandson, Takuma, who has been nothing but kind to me--as he is with everyone. Shiki and Rima have been kind to me as well, offering to share their snacks with me whenever I pass them by. Everyone has been kind, well save for a handful of bad apples.

A commotion was coming from outside the dorm gates, breaking my concentration from the last page of my third report. I placed down my pen to look towards my lattice window. The fans are earlier than usual... louder too. A knock at my door before the blonde head of Hana popped in. He looked at me before smiling and walking in, the door opened behind him carelessly. 'Hello, Hana. did you need something?' I wrote to him.

My good friend smiled like a child having candy for the first time. "Today is a special day, my little Ry, it's St. Xocolatl's Day!" He threw his arms into the air with a boyish cheer, "I am also willing to bet that you'll be getting a fair share of chocolates. Wanna make a bet on who gets more?" His eyes shined as he gave me a puppy dog look.

I just chuckling in my mind at him and wrote down my answer, 'Sure, Hana. I bet you'll get more than me, after all I've only been here for two weeks. I'm not really someone who'd have fans either.'

He stared at my answer, smiling at first before frowning when he finished. The next thing I know a flick to my forehead and suddenly Hana was mashing his fists against the sides of my head. "Ry you are a beautiful and intelligent girl who can give any bimbo a run for their money, how many times do I have to tell you this? The fanboys have been going nuts over you since day one and I'll be damned before I let you start going back into that dark corner I found you in again." As he was saying this my arms flared about; trying to get him to let me go.

This was how things usually went at least twice a week, Hana always praising me and trying to convince me I was more than I thought I was, getting fed up with me being "modest" as he calls it, and me giving in and agreeing with his words. He's a good friend and I indent to one day pay him back for everything.

Hana paused in drilling the sides of my head when someone knocked on the doorframe. Takuma was standing there with a smile on his face. "It's almost time to get going, it's going to be a busy day and since it will be Ryda's first time experiencing St. Xocolatl's Day here we'll need to prepare." I tiled my head in confusion at this.

'Prepare for what?'

Hana signed and released me before walking around me to crouch down in front of me, Takuma walking over to also stand in front of me, just off to my side slightly. "Ry, on days like this people express their love, but they can also express their hate." Hana said softly, giving me a sad smile.

Takuma placed his hand on my head softly. "We'll protect you from the hate, though, as best we can." I smiled at the two of them and nodded before leaping up to my feet and spinning around to face the two aristocrats with a bright smile and held up my notebook for them to read.

'Well, let's get going then.'

I regret everything. The bridge was an organised chaos of fans and screaming girls grabbing at every millisecond of an opportunity to be noticed by their favourite Night Class student. It was terrifying. Gates and stable fences were even put up to organise the fan groupies into different categories--basically a stable for each Night Class student. It felt like being an anime on display at the zoo and cold shivers were wracking my body at the very thought. Asato had once told me about the horrors that could befall a woman if a group of men got to have their way with her, he said that men were like wild beasts that will not hesitate to hang me up in the air like an ornament to tickle to me death. That's also why I've never really understood why the girls here seem to throw themselves at the boys; do they simply enjoy the idea of being tickled to death? Humans are so strange.

My ears caught wind of some whispers amongst some Day Class girls.
"Who does that new girl think she is, being so close to Aidol and Takuma."
"I wonder if she's just whoring herself out to them and they're just taking pity on her."
"Probable, Takuma is way too nice to everyone anyways. The mute is just taking advantage."

I stopped in my tracks with my head down, causing Hana and Takuma to look over at me. Hana went a little pale when he noticed that I was starting to lose my temper. I turned sharply on my heel and marched over to the small group of Day Class girls while furiously scribbling in my notebook. I stood a few steps away from them, catching their attention, and they froze at the sight of me. 'My vocal chords may not work, but my ears do.' I shot them one last glare before storming off.

As I slowed down, I found myself was walking along side a girl with long white hair and wine red eyes, avoiding the crowds of organised fans and trying to escape to the classroom as quickly as possible. The girl never really spoke any words, all she did was give me a smile and nudged her head as if signaling me to walk alongside her. She walked me to the classroom and gave me a ghost of a smile before turning away to leave.

I felt like she was someone I should trust, but no one else seemed to be able to see her, I wonder who she was. One thing was for sure, the scars that littered her body and her back looked as if it had once melted like a candle stick, the sight of which had left me feeling pity and shock. As I turned to open the door to the room, an unfamiliar voice whisked past my ears like a whisper of the wind. "Beware of the Vampire Knight's curse, for I am one who once fell victim to such." It was a soft and broken voice that must have belonged to the girl, but when I whipped around she was nowhere to be seen.

An odd feeling melancholy washed over me before it quickly vanished, my ears popping at the sound of a person punching a wall from within the classroom. I shook my head to rid my thoughts of my confusion before turning back to the closed doors of the room. I must be hearing things, maybe I've lost too much sleep working on those reports.

I started heading towards my desk when something caught my eye, imbedded into the wall right next to my seat was a purple crystal, an attached chain dangling in the air from the elegant cage that held it to the crystal. Was this the sound I heard earlier? I wondered to myself as it finally dawned upon me that no one else was in the room.

I walked up the the necklace and pulled it out of the wall, cradling it in my small hands. My brows knitted together in confusion as I stared at the beautifully--simple--piece of jewellery. Something compelled me to clasp on the necklace and keep it hidden from the world, and so I did. Once I had linked it around my neck I swiftly slipped it under my uniform and used my wavy dark hair to hide the expose chain in the back.

Yes that "punch" to the wall was actually my sad attempt to break the 4th wall. Those who have read my first VK fanfic, Awaking✝, should (hopefully) get what I mean and who the mystery girl might be.

Anyways, what did you all think?
Any theories as to where I'm going with this story?
What do you all think the "Vampire Knight's Curse" is?
Where did that necklace come from and who put it there?
