"we don't need magic to transform the world, we have all of the power we need inside ourselves already"

finn

electric feel by MGMT blasted through my ears as i drove down the empty road, my hair getting caught in the wind coming through my rolled down windows.

all i could think about was millie, and i didn't even know her. all i knew was that this british girl showed up in the otherwise vacant seat next to mine in second period, in an MGMT t-shirt, and a beautiful smile.

she had short brown hair and wild and large brown eyes, complimenting her tan skin, her lips curving perfectly across her face. something about her made me feel like i had to know her.

i pulled into my driveway, almost missing it due to being lost in thought about a girl i didn't know, and was greeted by my older brother on his way out the door.

"hey nick" i said, shutting my car door, keys and bag in hand.

"hey, i'm going back to school, i'll be home in a few days. mom and dad called, by the way. you might wanna call them back" he said, climbing into his car. i weakly smiled and waved, making my way through the door. i threw my keys on the counter, my bag along with them

my mom and dad work together at a hospital in the city, and when they had to be working so often, they had to often stay close, they didn't always have time to come home every night and cook dinner and see their kids.

so they got themselves a cheap appartment in the city, just to stay at for two or three days at a time until they'd come home. you see, we were going to move to the city but i didn't want to leave all my friends behind, and nick was in high school at the time too and didn't want to leave either.

every few days one, or both, of them would come home and we'd see a movie or something before they had to go back. the time we spent together was fun, it just wasn't often. at this point, however, i was used to it. they still always made sure there was food in the house and everything was good, they just didn't really live with us anymore.

it's okay though, i'm in my senior year and eighteen, nick's at college, so i get to have a big house to myself, which can come in handy when you're eighteen and want to party.

"mom? how are you?" i half heartedly smiled into the phone when she picked up.

"hi, finn. i'm tired, but i'm doing good. your father and i are coming home tomorrow to see you, do you need anything from the city?" she asked, sounding like she had to make this phone call quick

"no, no, i'm good. thanks, mom. see you tomorrow?" i decided to let her go do whatever it was that was occupying her attention.

"sure, sure. see you tomorrow, honey. love you" she replied, her attention snapping back to our conversation.

"love you too, mom" i replied as i hung up the phone and walked up to my bedroom.

after a while of playing guitar and video games, i decided to call caleb and see what he was doing.

millie

"sadie? how'd you get my number?" i smiled as i answered the unknown caller coming from my phone.
