The next morning I woke up with a start and I recalled last night. I looked at my hand, and I had brought it to my as I woke up, but where my hand was, Kaleb's hand laid there as he was sleeping. I stared at it for a few moments, in shock. But I realized that was in the past and I didn't want to worry about it. I opened my curtain, and I was taken aback as the white wilderness had disappeared. I could actually see the houses down the street. A few feet of snow laid outside though, and it was definitely cold out there.
I sat down on the bed, but didn't know what to do yet, so I got my phone out, seeing more news posts. It was about the snow clearing and school would be back in session in a couple days once snow plowers plowed the roads.
I just scrolled through web page after web page, and found a dark news source, saying the power was back on for the dark side of town. I felt happy, and I looked over at Kaleb. He was such a sleepy head.
I grabbed my sketchbook and I looked at a blank white page. I felt inspiration and I started randomly drawing. I wanted to make him something after all the drawings and approval he had given me.
I slid onto the floor, sitting against my bed and just drew and drew. Kaleb stirred in the bed and then he got up. He stumbled past me and headed to the bathroom. I kept drawing.
A little bit before Kaleb came back into my room, I ripped out my drawing and signed it. As he walked in, I showed him the drawing. There were some obvious rushed parts, but overall I liked it.
He sleepily looked at it and gasped at it.
"This is really good..." Kaleb mumbled.
It had a split scene, a heart in the middle, one half colored in, and the other left blank. The background behind the heart that was left blank was colored in. The heart had different shapes and symbols in it representing many different things.
Kaleb pinned it onto the cork board and then jumped back onto the bed. He groaned as he laid face down in the bed.
"What's wrong?" I asked, moving to the bed and sitting next to him.
"I think it's the cold from yesterday and sitting around. I feel like i'm sick..." Kaleb groaned.
"Awe, I'll get some warm blankets and hot chocolate..." I said as he leaned his head to the side, looking up at me and made a weak smile.
I went downstairs, getting hot chocolate and blankets fresh from the dryer. I also alerted my mom about Kaleb not feeling well and she suggested hot tea that she would make at lunchtime, along with some soup.
I headed upstairs and Kaleb was cuddled with the blankets in a fetal position. I wrapped the warm blanket around him and he flipped over and I handed him the hot chocolate. He sipped from it carefully, and kept the blankets around him. After he had finished his hot cocoa, I joined him, sitting next to him and embraced him. I felt bad that he was sick, and I started blaming myself.
"Sorry that you're not feeling well."
"No, no, don't be sorry. I'll be fine, it's probably just temporary from the cold and sitting around."
"Yeah, luckily the snow is going away. It's not blinding white outside."
"Wait, really? Darn it, I guess school will start back up soon then."
"Yeah..."
I stopped holding Kaleb close to me, and I got up and sat at my desk. He laid back down and he dozed off. I got out some schoolwork to finish up.
Lunchtime came around, and I woke up Kaleb, and he fluttered open his eyes. He looked up at me, and groaning, partly joking. He slowly got up as I told him to come downstairs. He almost headed out of my room just in boxers and a t-shirt, but I had him go back and he put on sweats. Then, we headed downstairs and my mom had made chicken noodle soup and honey lemon hot tea.
