Freezing Love

I went to school the next day, and saw all Kaleb's posters and signs down the hall. I smiled and went on with my day. My friends and I were hanging out and doing our school work together.

"Looks like you're doing well with Kaleb," Sarah said.

"You always hang out with him nowadays though..." Noah commented, giving me squinted eyes.

I did an awkward chuckle, "I'm just excited to help people, y'know."

At lunchtime, I was with my friends again in our usual spot and I looked across the way to see a light red haired guy grab one of Kaleb's posters and he looked over it, and someone else came up behind him. They stared at the poster for a second, and then tore it in half, and dropped it on the ground.

I turned to another side of the quad and saw Kaleb. He was staring right at the two guys who had ripped up his poster. I felt bad, but I looked away not knowing what to do.

Later in the day, I got into French, and I noticed Kaleb and the teacher were talking. Kaleb went to sit down, but he sat further up in the class than before, in the very back. I looked back at him; he smiled and gave me a thumbs up. I smiled back and then looked back to the teacher.

The class started and the first thing she mentioned was Kaleb's canned food drive efforts and motioned to the box lying at the front of the room. Kaleb was smiling the entire class period.

After French, Kaleb and I met outside the class and we walked again. We talked about life and Kaleb was so happy about the canned food drive. I didn't bother to mention the guy ripping up his poster; I didn't want to see him sad. We approached the back door of the school, and we realized there was a light snow outside. It was nice. We got outside, getting on our beanies and scarfs.

We went outside and we walked for a little bit. I skipped for a little bit and then did a twirl, making Kaleb laugh.

"You're so funny," He said.

"I think you're so funny."

We continued walking until we neared the place where Kaleb had to split off. But I got a better idea.

"How about I ask my mom if you can come over? We can study and hang out."

"That sounds wonderfully awesome!" Kaleb exclaimed.

I texted my mom about it, and she approved. We both got excited and we headed towards my house.

As we approached the front of my house, the snowfall seemed to get heavier. Kaleb and I rushed into my house. My mom greeted us with snacks and we obliged to taking one. Kaleb and I shook off our outer layers and wet shoes. Then we headed up to my bedroom.

"So this is the place of magic. Y'know, sleeping, getting dressed, homework."

"Whoa, behind the scenes tour..." Kaleb joked.

We sat on my bed, and I got out some French stuff, and so did he. We worked on that for a while, until we were both bored out of our minds. We laid back and talk about more random stuff like how certain teachers do weird things, and how much we just want school to be over.

We complained about finals coming up in a few weeks and about the weather being cold and harsh. Then we got awkward and silent. We stared into eachother's eyes for a little while, but then I looked away. After that, he beckoned me to sit right next to him, and I reluctantly accepted. I sat right next to him and his arm was right next to my thigh. I felt close to him, and warm.

He snuggled his head on my shoulder and then stayed there. It was dead silent for a little while, until Kaleb broke it.

"Look, I can't stop thinking about that time you came to my house. I'm still so sorry about what happened."
