Can can you face yourself?

Matt's POV

Carrying a tray full of hospital food, i reach Nathan's door. I take a deep breath. What questions will he ask next. What kind of person is he really?

I know nothing about this boy, besides he's 16 years old, sorta emo, passionate about music, and he has a wonderful mom...

And he's beau-

No.

I walk into the room, to see Nathan sitting on the bed staring out of the window. He must be really lost in his thoughts if he didn't notice me come in.

I clear my throat, causing Nathan to jump, and then hand him the tray.
"Thanks," I think I hear him mutter on his breath. "No problem."

As he's eating, I pull my chemistry book out of my bag. I start to write answers down when I hear "Why?"
"Why what?" I ask.
"Why help me?"
"Because I can't imagine someone who wanted or deserved to die. Why did you do it?"
"What?" He asks confused.
"Why did you attempt to kill yourself?"
"Because I was tired of living."

I didn't know what to say to that. What could I say to that? We sit in silence for several minutes before I close my book and grab a blanket.

"What are you doing?" Nathan asks.
"Getting ready to sleep."
"In that chair?"
"Yeah."
"Oh. Okay." he says simply.

I then throw away his finished plate and turn off the lights. I'm out in seconds.

Nate's POV

"Goodnight," I whisper to the boy sitting next to me, but there's no response. He must've been exhausted.

It takes a while for me to get tired enough to sleep, but I eventually do.
And... I'm falling.... falling. 5. Im sorry. 4.....

I wake up to someone shaking me gently awake. I crack my eyes, only for them to be burned by the light from my window. Morning already? But it felt like I've only been asleep for mere seconds. And who is that shaking me?

That's when reality kicks in.

That's Matthew.
And this is a hospital room.

I feel him shake me again, slightly harder, and so I groan, acknowledging him.

"It's time to get up," he says, "the doctor said you'll be checking out of the hospital today, so you need to be ready."

"Okay," I say, rolling over.
