“Grab your partners.” Ms. Suzanne commands us.

I look around, seeing everyone grabbing hands and locating partners. People are waving at other people. Some are sharing hidden signs. All of them are going around and searching. It's such a commotion.

I, on the other hand, stand awkwardly on stage.

And exactly as I start moving, everyone settles down.

It's official. I am partner-less. That goofy Mikee guy is nowhere to be found.

I begin to head down the stage. I have to admit that even if this is just a practice, being stag sucks. I guess I have to sit this one out.

Almost down with one step, someone taps on my shoulder.  “You want me to just stand there like an idiot?” Mikee asks me jokingly.

I scoff. "I was about to ask the same question."

Mikee rubs the back of his neck before finally asking “Want to dance?”

Duh.

Despite my sudden want to him Mikee for abandoning me earlier and showing up late, I nod and hold his left hand. We head at the back and fall in line with the other couples.

Ms. Suzanne is already shouting instructions when we find a place. The other couples are already dancing so we decide to copy their movements. Fortunately, I did well in P.E. class. I won’t screw this up.

At first, everything is going smoothly. In spite of my sweating palms and my pounding heart, I manage to try and dance naturally in front of my crush. I act brave and normal even if deep down I'm wishing that I could hide my blush. I am too conscious of  myself that I don't enjoy the Mikee moment going on.

That's until he spoke up. "This is a bit boring."

Mikee lets go of my hand and takes a few steps backward. The he breaks out into an 80's type of dance. The bobs his head from left to right while swaying his hips. He imitates the famous moon walk but fails. He raises his hands in an odd fashion. And despite this wild protest that he calls "dancing", Ms. Suzanne or anyone else is paying attention. He is absolutely awesome! He’s the king of the dance floor.

After that exhibition, he invites me to join him. My eyes widen as I try to escape. But then he show a puppy look that makes me sigh in defeat. You know what they say. You only live once.

I awkwardly begin by swinging my hips. Eventually, I get the hang of his steps and enjoy the groove. It isn't something I usually do but it sure is fun!

Whatever we did was way better than some boring waltz.
