Eragon and the elves let out a sight of satisfaction as they stood back to admire their work. They had spent the entire day digging up a lake of almost twenty feet deep and a diameter of something lesser than an elven-made bow. They decided to make it even more deeper before filling it up with water. They had constructed a small river from the hills and the Edda river to fill up the lake thus making sure it doesn't run dry and placed a makeshift dam to hold the water till the lake was completed. Large trees were sung into outposts as the slightly smaller ones made up an almost impenetrable wall. Layers upon layers of trees were sung into shape by the elves with out-most perfection while the edulnari shared the energy it would require to complete the task. There were outposts at each layer but were arranged in a mosaic so that it doesn't overlap any other outpost's firing range. The only path that was available to the non-riders category was sealed and everyone was sure nobody can cross the lake unnoticed, let alone enter the Valley of Hope. No rider was allowed to bring in anyone without Eragon's spoken permission, therefore there must be at least two riders available to bring in anybody, preferably a senior and well experienced rider to show how its supposed to be done and a new novice rider to learn the trade along the way. The elves must be informed earlier and only after they had confirmed with Eragon that it was okay to let the person in, will they not shoot the individual down. And everyone that enters the Valley of Hope is searched through their mind before proceeding further than the first gate. There were three gates and had different levels of security checks to ensure nobody got pass the gates and was still a threat to the riders community.
Eragon was satisfied with the work done today. They were moving in front of schedule and he wanted to keep it that way as he planned to invite all of Agleasia's most important rulers to the opening of the valley. It was on the same date Arya became a rider nearly six months ago. He wanted to make her feel special even though he knew there was no way anything could happen between them. His heart ached at that thought, but there was nothing he could do except pray silently that one day she'll accept him become his soul mate. He sent two elves for each direction, north to Du Weldenvarden, and south to Agleasia and Surda simply to inform them of the opening of the valley, the ceremony that he was hosting and to ferry the four eggs that the council of dragons consisting all the edulnari had presented to be tested to search for new riders.
Two of the eggs itself were unique as it was a twin dragon egg considering the almost equal colouring of the eggs and almost same twirling vines on its shell. Both of it were travelling with the group that was travelling south. Eragon couldn't help but wander who would be the riders of such fine dragons not that it could match Saphira's egg's beauty, but still, impressive nonetheless. Will they be twins just as the dragons were? 'I heard that. Thanks for thinking my egg shell is more beautiful than those two eggs,' Saphira purred. ' You'll always be my very first,' he replied sincerely. 'As for whether the riders of the twin dragons will be twins or not, we'll just have to wait and see. We have to trust the dragons to make a wise choice and not rush over it. It's a one time thing after all,' she continued, worry clear in her voice. After they made their greetings early the four elves left the next morning. Eragon watched them go grimly as they slowly disappeared from the horizon. Soon even Saphira couldn't see them. Eragon went to the Lizcari Axore to wait for his guest. His most trusted spy was returning from the southern parts of Agleasia, namely Surda and its nearby cities and towns including Urubaen. He had her to go to the dwarves city of Troljenhiem to do a little snooping around to make sure all was in order and he didn't need to help his adopted brother King Orik to maintain peace among the twelve dwarf clans.
She arrived on time. Eragon was surprised she never even contacted him before entering the valley and she was not caught by any of the elves at the three gates and slipped passed all of them including his twelve guards. 'And we were boasting that in was impenetrable by anyone,' he grumbled under his breath. The fact that she was so stealthy and had manged to enter the Lizcari Axore unnoticed, suggests that she knew her way around the valley perfectly as this was the second most secluded place in the valley after the Jinorikizma (Dragon Hall). One has to know his or her way around the valley like the back of their hand before finding the Lizcari Axore. Only the elves and Eragon himself knew the paths because they were here when it was built and both party had their share of the building process too. Still, even the elves can fail at this task sometimes if they were not paying attention. He silently wandered how she knew the path and pondered whether to ask her or not. 'No, not today. Maybe some other time when the situation is not as tensed as this,' he thought to himself. Then again he reminded himself that he needed someone of her skills to not get caught by anyone and still give him the required intelligence. He knew she was someone to recon with out most care and was glad he was on good terms with her. Her soft padding on the stone floor made his ears perk up. He immediately put up his protection screen on. It was transparent and was perfectly invisible to everyone including the dragons. It took him several months perfecting it, now only a well trained eye can see the slight shimmer of magic in the air around him, but they cannot see the shield itself, just a shimmer like a mirage that occurs in the Hadarac Desert. It made him feel safer knowing that they were in the same room but separated by an invisible glass protector, so that even if she tries anything, he wouldn't be in harm's way. He doesn't really know the full extent of her powers yet, but he knew she was getting stronger each day.
'Hello Elva, what news have you brought this time?' he asked pleasantly though he felt his palm getting sweaty. As soon as she stepped in to the hall a rock door slid close and shutting out all connection with the outside world except Saphira of course. He knew she could see the shield as an amused smile flashed for a split second that revealed her fangs! It was so quick that you would think that you must have imagined it. Immediately he knew he wasn't safe and wanted nothing but to leave the hall. The girl stood in the shadows, only her shining brow where Saphira left her mark was visible. 'Troubling news Argetlem, very troubling news,' she spoke with sadness in her eyes. She took her time to come out of the shadows and stood in front of him. She had grown to a considerable size for a fully grown after the Great War although she was barely five years old. 'What is it?' Eragon snapped, he was getting impatient. He was not going to back down simply because he was afraid of her powers. He knew that she couldn't hurt him as she had swore her fealty to him in the ancient language before he left Uru Baen.
