It's been a month since the rankings went up. I now work in the control room and I'll train the Dauntless-born in the summer. I feel like Four. It's empowering really. I never really looked up to Zeke because, well, he's Zeke. So when Four came to Dauntless, he was the one I looked up to. He was the one I wanted to be. And now that I'm finally in Dauntless as a member, I feel like him. And I've had this huge sense of accomplishment ever since I realized that.
My mind drifts to ranking day, and that, of course, makes me think of Tris.
I really haven't seen Tris that much since the rankings. We had dinner that night with our friends, celebrating, drinking a little bit, but not enough to get drunk. Which was a first for me. I remember that night very clearly. She look hot. I really don't like calling girls hot. It's just seems degrading to me, but that night, she was.
For the first time, I saw her hair down and flat. She had on a black tanktop that was flowy, and black shorts that ended just before her fingertips, and some black high tops. She was sexy.
Since that night though, I haven't seen her. Not really. We've passed in the hallway a few times, and she'll smile and send a "hey." my way, but that's it. It's about to drive me crazy.
I get to the cafeteria. The first thing I see is Tris.
She's back! My mind yells.
She choose ambassador for the other factions, and I really don't see her a lot anymore. She's been at Amity for the past week, and the three weeks before that were her learning how to do the job.
I grab a muffin, some juice and sit down next to Zeke. And across from Tris.
"Hey. Haven't seen you in a while." I say to her.
She smiles at me and I forget how to breath.
"I know! I've been busy. I didn't think this would require this much work." She lets out a short laugh. "I like it though. It's interesting."
I grin at her. "Well so is watching the Dauntless do stupid things all day."
She rolls her eyes, but there's a smile on her face. "Yea it sounds like it."
I give her my cheesy grin and she blushes just the tiniest bit. Wait she blushed!?!
Ok calm down Uriah, that's probably just from her smiling so much.
But she wouldn't be smiling if you weren't here now would she? My brain starts arguing with itself. I really do this a lot, it's how I make decisions. Plus, sometimes I just do it for my own entertainment.
Yes she would and you know it. Zeke can make anyone laugh.
Yes but can he make her blush?
Oh shut up.
I shake my head a little, trying to clear my argumentative brain.
"So you know, how bout we catch up a little. Are you busy Friday?" I ask, trying to keep eye contact. I don't want to seem nervous. That's just dumb. But boy, is it hard.
She looks like she's thinking. Oh crap. Is she debating weather to let me down hard or easy? Or is she wondering if she's pitying me enough to say yes?
"No I don't think I'm busy." She says.
Or she could be mentally checking her calendar, idiot.
Shut up!
"You wanna, I dunno, grab some dinner?"
She smiles warmly at me. "Yea that sounds great."
"Cool. Eight ok?" I don't want to offer to pick her up. That would make it seem like a date. Not that I wouldn't love to go on a date with her, I'm just not sure that's what she wants.
.
"Yea. Where?""Uhhh, pizza place?"
She looks at me questionably. "Pizza place?"
I give her a look. "You know, by all the bars?"
She lets out a short laugh. "Ok three things, 1; There's bars all over Dauntless. 2; I don't drink so I don't know exactly where they are. 3; Uriah Pedrad, you better not be trying to get me drunk." She has a small smile, so I assume she's joking.
"I have three things for you. 1; Yes I know, but a little ways from the Pit there's a room filled with mainly bars. 2; How can you be Dauntless and not drink? And 3; Tris Prior, I would never get you drunk." And I wouldn't. If we end up together I want her, not her body. At first at least. And plus if I wanted sex, I'd rather her be sober, so she didn't end up regretting it later.
She smiles and rolls her eyes again. "Just pick me up at eight." Pick her up? This is starting to go my way.
"Where do you live?"
"67A"
"Great." I smile at her.
She smiles back. "Great." She repeats.
Just then, Zeke notices our conversation.
"Aww look at the lovebirds! Planning their first date!" He says.
Tris rolls her eyes and I reach over to smack his head.
"I haven't seen him in a month, am I not allowed to catch up a little? Plus we're just friends." She says.
Well. That wasn't a line I wanted to hear.
This time it's Zeke who rolls his eyes. "You're catching up now. You don't need dinner yet you're doing it anyways."
"Yeah but if we go out to dinner we can talk about the people we don't like. I.E. you." I say.
Zeke gives me a weird look, then shrugs. "Ok!" He throws his hands up. "But if you get her drunk I will personally kill you." He says while waving his finger at me.
I shove his finger out of my face. "If I get her drunk I will personally kill myself."
Tris lets out a 'phht' sound and stands up. "I'd really love to listen to you guys argue about who's going to kill who, but I need to go to work. See ya." With that, she dumps and walks out the door.
I smile at her back. Isn't she something?
"Uriah." My name snaps me back to the present and I turn to look at Zeke. His face is serious and all the laughter that was on it earlier was gone.
"Zeke." I say, just to mess with him.
"Be serious for once and listen to me. You going out with Tris might not be the best idea."
"I told you, it's not a date-" He cuts me off.
"Yea but we all know that's what you want it to be."
"So?" Where's he going with this?
"Uriah. I know someone who really likes this girl. Like he is freakin whipped and they're not even going out. He wouldn't do anything to hurt you, but if you went out with her he would be devastated."
"Yeah, well, I really this girl too. And if your mystery guy wants her, he's gonna have to make a move faster than me." With that, I stand up and leave.
But I am curious. Who's this guy Zeke's talking about?
Ok well, Zeke has a lot of people he hangs out with, but only two friends. Four and Shauna. Shaunas definitely out, since she's a girl, so that leaves.... Four.
Oh shit.
