I'm pacing in my room. And have been for the last hour. And of course, my brain was being argumentative with itself.
Four likes Tris? Seriously! God! If he likes her as much as Zeke says he does, I'm screwed!
Calm down bro. You realize it's probably not Four, right?
Well who the hell is it then!?
.......... I don't know.
Exactly! Jesus Christ I'm dead!
Zeke said he wouldn't hurt you! He'd just be devastated.
Yea but a devastated Four is not a good Four.
........Fair point...... WAIT! What about Lauren?
What about her?
She's been in love with Four ever since he jumped on that train. If they get together, you don't have anything to worry about if you get with Tris.
Ok ok.......... How do I get them together?
Ummmmm I'll come back to that.
Ugh. I'm dead.
My brain was about to respond to its self when there was a knock on the door. Ugh what now? my mind yelled out. For once it agreed on something.
I went over and opened the door. And of course, my breathing stopped, and my palms got sweaty.
"Hey Uriah!" Tris said. "I left my phone on the table and I was wondering if you grabbed it."
I scratched the back of my neck. "Um no, but I work in the control room. We can go in there and rewind the footage."
"Oh my god thank you!"
I give her a cheesy grin. "Don't mention it."
We walk side by side to the control room, and my hand keeps twitching over to hers, and I have to remind my self to keep control.
She has no interest in you.
How do you know?
Because she said it at breakfast. She said 'We're just friends.'
Oh yeah.
Stupid.
Shut up you pansycake.
Did you just call yourself a pansycake?
I think I did.....
Dude, we're so messed up.
Agreed.
"Uriah." I yank my head out of the clouds when I hear my name.
"Hm?" I ask Tris.
She gives me a weird look. "Are you gonna open the door?"
I look up, and realize we're at the control room.
"Oh uh, yea." Way to go, idiot.
I punch in the code on the side of the door and the door slides open. I stand to the side and extend my arm inside the door.
"Ladies first." Really Uriah? Really?
I don't know! Just go with it!
You are WHIPPED dude!
She smiles at me and walks inside.
I may be whipped, but it worked didn't it?
Whatever...
I smirked a little because my side of the brain won. Wait what? My side of the.... But their both my sides... Oh never mind.
I follow Tris inside and sit down at the desk, pulling up the footage from this morning.
I watch as Tris texts somebody on her phone (a/n yes I added phones! I swear they won't change the story that much!) and set it down when Christina walked up. I skipped it forward, to where she was standing up and leaving. Yup. The phones still on the table. I skip forward until I get to the live footage. The phones still there.
"Huh." She mutters. "You'd think someone would take it."
"Hey." I say. "Dauntless aren't all bad."
She gives me a look. "You think I'd diss my own faction?"
Oh yea. She's Dauntless now.
Idiot.
SHUT UP!
"No no! I just.... Umm..."
She laughs and I feel my face heat up, though as dark as I am she probably didn't notice.
"It's fine." She says. "It's hard for me to believe too."
"No it's not hard for me to believe!" I say a little too quickly. "It's just sometimes I forget that it ended. I feel like we just started training yesterday. I always knew you'd be in Dauntless."
Shit. That last part wasn't supposed to come out of my mouth.
Her cheeks flush and she looks down, embarrassed.
Nice going! Now you embarrassed her.........but I must admit, she's cute when she's embarrassed.
"Um, thanks." She mumbles. Then she straightens and smiles. "I uh, better go get my phone."
She turns to leave, and as she opens they door, she runs right into Four.
"Sorry! I- Oh. Hey Four."
He smiles at her. "Hey Tris." He looks up and sees me. "Hey Uri. Was I um, interrupting something?" He says the last part with a look of anguish on his face as he scratches the back of his neck.
Just as I'm about to say something, Tris replies. "No. Uriah was just helping me find my phone."
His face brightens. "Oh ok. Um cool."
He shifts to the side to let Tris and I pass, and when we're in the hallway, I finally decide to man up and ask her. I can take the reply. I know I can.
"Tris?"
"Hm?"
"Are you and Four together?" I ask, putting a playful smirk on my lips and wiggling my eyebrows, trying to convince her that it's no big deal.
She laughs. "No! God no! He seriously scares the hell out of me."
I laugh a little. "I would say 'join the club' but he really doesn't scare me."
She looks at me with a look of..... Awe? Surprise?
"Four doesn't scare you?!"
I shrug. "Not really. I kind of look up to him. I mean my dad died when I was little, and I'd rather not look up to a bastard like Zeke, so yea. I look up to Four."
"Wow. Impressive." She mutters.
"Impressive?" I question.
"This is the faction of bravery, and you have to be pretty brave not to be scared of Four."
"Huh." I mutter. I never thought of it like that. I never really know why people were afraid of him anyways. He was nice. Ish. And it's not like he would ever hurt anyone. Except for Eric. But everyone would hurt Eric.
We reached the cafeteria and she grabbed her phone. "Thanks Uri." She said, glanced at her watch. "I better go. I'll see you Friday." She gave me a warm smile before walking off, and I couldn't help but feel a smile force it's way onto my face as well.
Pansycake. My mind muttered.
