"For the time being," Rick says.
The gathered group looks around the cell block, their faces a mixture of emotions.
"It's secure?" Lori asks.
"This cellblock is," he answers. "In the morning, we'll find the cafeteria and infirmary."
"We sleep in the cells?" Beth asks, sounding disgusted.
"It's either that or outside," I say, rolling my eyes. "You pick."
"I'll stay in here," she answers quickly.
"Daryl and I both have a set of keys," Rick says. "So if you need anything unlocked, talk to us."
"I ain't sleepin' in no cage. I'll take the perch," Daryl says. Everyone looks up at where he's standing.
"Come on everyone," I urge.
People disperse and start putting their stuff into cells. I walk upstairs, where I see Carol talking to Daryl.
"Are you sure? You could share a cell with me..." she says flirtatiously. If she had hair long enough to twirl around her finger, she'd be doing it.
"Nah. I'll stay out here," he replies.
"If you change your mind, let me know." She turns around, bumping into me.
I raise my eyebrow, and she hurries away, not looking at me. I look at Daryl.
"I'm trying really hard not to be the jealous girlfriend type, but it's getting kind of hard," I say, putting a hand on my hip.
He wraps and arm around my waist and kisses my forehead. "You're the only one for me, sweetheart."
"Is it wrong of me to worry the slightest bit?"
"I've told her that I wanna stay friends, and that I'm with you, but she doesn't listen."
"So I take it you aren't going to move in with her if you change your mind?" I ask, smiling.
"Nah. I'll move in with you if that happens." He smiles back.
I chuckle, pulling away from him. "I'm going to go see how everyone else is doing."
He nods, and I start walking down the row of cells.
"This is actually pretty comfortable. Check it out!" I hear Beth say.
I glance into the room as I walk by, where she looks around with Carl. Hershel walks by me and into the room, where he stands behind Carl.
"You found your room yet?" he asks.
"Um...yeah...uh...I was just making sure Beth was safe," Carl stammers. "See you tomorrow!"
"See you later," Beth says as Carl leaves the room.
He turns and sees me, and I grin. His cheeks turn red.
"Beth huh?" I ask.
"She's a friend," he mumbles.
I raise an eyebrow, still grinning, and he shoves my arm teasingly before moving past me. I keep scanning the cells and find an empty one. I toss my bags onto the top bunk and sit down on the lower one.
"Everybody get some rest. Hang out in the cells, sleep, whatever you need to do," Rick says, his voice echoing through the block. "We all need it."
I hear doors clang shut and soon, all is quiet.
I lie awake on my bed. Daryl usually sleeps somewhere near me, and the feeling of knowing that he is nearby makes me feel safer. My cell is too quiet and cold.
