/Sorry for the double upload, I realized I had to edit some parts (no big changes so if you have already read this chapter there's no need to read again)\
Once lunch rolled around, I was already ready to go home. My eyelids had started becoming heavy, my limbs the same, and I was worn out. So when someone came up to the otherwise empty table (Jade, whom I had agreed to eat with after she insisted on it during History, and her other friends had gone to get lunch, whereas I brought my own) and started talking to me, I almost rolled my eyes. I was grateful I didn't when I looked up and saw the raspy voice did not, in fact, belong to some douchebag trying to hit on me.
Apparently in this school I was considered hit-on-material, because I couldn't even tell you how many guys had already tried, which was a shock to me at first because I'd rarely been subject to any type of flirting before. I soon realised though that it seemed to be a select group of boys who were doing it, and they were like sharks who'd just smelt blood in the water. Every time one of them had flirted with me they had retreated to the same group of friends and received heavy pats on the back as they laughed like a bunch of apes. I was probably just some dumb competition or game to them, so I payed them no mind.
"Hi." She said, lips forming a small smile.
"H-hey. Hi." I stuttered and my previously tired eyes shot open. She chuckled and gently grazed her fingers against the table in front of me as she adjusted her sunglasses with her other hand.
"I'm Lauren. Jauregui." She held out the hand which had trailed across the tabletop for me to shake so I did, but instead of shaking it she just held it there for a second. It's coolness caused goosebumps to run up my arm and across my whole body. She must've just been outside.
"And you are?" She let go of my hand and leaned against the table with her hip.
"Oh, sorry." I mumbled, closing my eyes and furrowing my brows a little to try to calm my raging nerves., "Y/N Y/L/N." I had no idea how she had this effect on me, but I couldn't lie and say I didn't like it, even just a little.
"Qué hermoso." She said quietly, her smile growing a little. Then she looked up and over my shoulder and that smile faltered for a second. I turned my head slightly towards where she had looked, but yet again couldn't bring my eyes off of hers.
"I'm sorry, I- I have to go." She repositioned her hat before looking back at I with an apologetic look. There also seemed to be a hint of asking permission to leave, so I nodded as I responded with a simple 'ok.'.
"It was nice meeting you." I called after her as she began walking away. She turned and nodded once before continuing, and then I noticed she was walking away from the direction she had looked. I then glanced to where her gaze had fallen just in time to see Jade giving her what could only be described as a death stare before her expression softened when she looked at me.
Okay, what is going on between those two? I questioned, but decided to just let it be. I'd probably find out at some point anyway.
"I told you not to mess with her." Jade said through what I now knew was a fake smile as she sat beside me, her friends whom I still had to properly introduce myself to sitting in their spaces too.
"I was just being polite." I defended myself, turning back just soon enough to see Lauren heading outside, following the other girls she always seemed to hang out with.
"Well don't." The girl who sat opposite me perked up, and I looked over at her quickly. She was quite tall, with dark skin and a dyed-blonde pixie cut and a silver nose-ring. I think Jade had said her name was Raquel but I wasn't sure.
"Why not?" I snapped, leaving out the 'she seems nicer that you anyway' which threatened to slip from my mouth.
"Because... she's dangerous." Jade growled, stabbing the salad she'd bought with a little too much ferocity. There was definitely something going on between them, but I wasn't sure what and I didn't want to assume. Whatever it was I felt like I had fallen on the wrong side of things.
