The bag they'd put over my head at some point was ripped off, revealing a similar looking basement to the one I'd saved Lauren from. What was it with supernatural beings and kidnapping and basements?

"Lauren!?" I instantly called out before realising that it was her who was there with me, "Lauren, oh my god, Lauren." I breathed out as I wrapped my arms around her.

I didn't know how long I'd already been down there, or how long she'd been with me. All I knew was that I'd be okay if she was here... or I thought so.

"Baby, I- I can't." She sighed and pulled away from me slightly, so I let go and frowned up at her, "I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry."

"We've already been over your options, Jauregui; or do you need to review?" A feminine voice announced from somewhere behind me, and I tried to turn but they were just out of my sight.

"Come on, Jade." Lauren sighed, and I instantly knew where I recognised the voice from.

"Jade?" I muttered, but neither of the girls even recognised that I'd spoken.

"You t-"

"Not in front of her." Lauren continued to plead, standing up now. I tried to do the same but found my legs almost too weak to move.

"Lauren, what's happening?" I tried, but the only response I got was a small glance from changed eyes. That couldn't mean anything good.

"You turn her, or we will." Jade managed to push out anyway, and I began to panic. Echoey footsteps left the room, followed by a loud slam of a door. I looked up at Lauren for some sort of comfort but she looked just as distressed as I did with her face buried in her hands.

You turn her, or we will.

All of a sudden, the lights flickered before shutting off entirely, forcing a small yelp from my throat.

"Lauren?" I called out and received nothing but silence. I held my breath, and heard nothing but my own heartbeat thudding in my ears. Had she left? Had she been taken somewhere else? Was I alone?

A cold hand landed on my head, and I leapt out of my skin before I heard her hushing me and the hand began to smooth my hair over. It was my girlfriend, not some terrifying monster living in this dark basement.

"What's happening, Laur? What's going on? Please tell me, Lauren." I begged, relishing in the fact that her touch was the only thing grounding me in reality whilst I battled the fact that I was already starting to see things around me in the darkness.

"Shhh..." she said gently, but her reassuring hand quickly disappeared, "I'll figure it out."

"Lauren? Lauren, don't- LAUREN!?"

No reply.

You'd have thought I'd be used to all of this by now. You'd have thought that after everything I'd been through, everything Lauren and I had been through just to be together, I'd be used to this. You'd be wrong.

I didn't know how long I was down there, it's kind of hard with no way to count the time than by your own erratic breathing.

At some point, my mind wandered to my parents. I'd barely spent any time with them since we moved here. They didn't have a clue what was going on in my life. They didn't know that Lauren and I were together, or that she was a fucking vampire. They didn't know that I was god-knows-where right now. Oh god! What if they never find out? What if this is it? What if I die here without ever being able to see them or Laur again? What if-

"Calm down." Her voice spoke from somewhere in the room. Again, it was loud and quiet at the same time, like when I'd first spoken to her in her cellar.

"Your anxiety makes you sweat and your heart speed up, and it's too tempting."

They hadn't- had they? Why did they have to take us back to square one?

"Lauren, you can fight this." I tried to persuade her, but she remained silent... until she croaked out a reply.

"Baby, please."

"No." I put my foot down, "You have to tell me what's happening. If you want me to stop worrying, you need to tell me what's going on."

Suddenly, the lights came back to life and I saw that she was leaning against the wall with her back, standing on one leg with the other also against the wall. Her eyes were their golden hue with the red markings around them. She'd drank human blood. Somehow, they'd made her.

My mind was in turmoil.

Turn her, or we will.

"Baby... I don't want them to turn me." I breathed out, "I don't want to be one of them."

She looked down from the ceiling to me and frowned slightly.

"You don't want to be one of us, either." She combatted, but I shook my head.

"Not yet, no." I agreed  but then argued, "But if it'll save us both... I want it."

"No, there has to be another way out." She shook her head.

"There isn't."

"NO!" She roared, moving to stand over me. I was scared, but her angry eyes flicked over mine a few times before they turned sad again. I wasn't sure which I preferred out of the evils, angry or sad. 'Pick your poison' had never been more relevant to me.

"Lauren, darling, please." My voice cracked as I tried to stand up again, this time able to do so. It must've been her who'd kept me down before.

"Laur, baby... please." My tone was soft and my voice quiet as I brought a hand to her cheek, partly to comfort her but partly remembering the occasions she'd smelt my blood through proximity with my wrist, likely due to the pulse point there.

"I don't want you to change your mind." She shook her head weakly, "I can't exactly bring you back from the dead."

"I know." I nodded, and she leaned into my touch slightly. I could see her eyes dilating like a predator's.

I took a deep breath.

This really was it. My parents never again would see me alive because...

"I want this."
