"Sweet, sweet freedom!" I joked, making the other girls laugh as Lauren and I reentered the house hand in hand.
"Yeah, maybe not for long." Ally sighed, the look on her face showing that she had back news.
I whined loudly, wrapping my hand around Lauren's shoulders as I leaned into her side.
"Does this ever fucking end?" I complained, making Lauren hang her head.
Noticing her drop in mood, I lifted her face and kissed her again, reaffirming, "I'm not mad at you, baby. I just... it's a lot. I love you."
"I know." She sighed, "I love you too."
"What's happening this time?" I questioned, turning back fo Ally.
"The wolves." She replied, "They wanted this for some reason, and we don't know what that is."
"'This' meaning me being turned?" I asked, and the other girls nodded.
"We need to find their motivation, but we don't know if you'll... be able to stay here," Normani explained, prompting to take a deep breath. I hadn't really thought about it before, but it made sense. The high school and town are overrun with werewolves, completely outnumbering me and the girls. If they were planning something to hurt us, they'd likely win. What other motivation would they have? Didn't they want me on their side to start with?
"What if they want us to leave? What if they just want this town to themselves?" I pointed out, "It's a reasonable motive for turning me. They'd have thought that I wouldn't be able to stay or else my parents would be hurt, or the residents of the town. We'd all have to move in order to keep the secret..."
"And they'd get our land." Lauren finished.
"Didn't you say there was a war before, over the land?" I then asked, and the girls all nodded.
"So they just want us to leave?" Dinah frowned, and I nodded slowly.
"I think so."
"They won't be very happy that you've stayed." Lauren then said lowly, and I nodded yet again, closing my eyes in realisation.
"They're going to drive us out somehow." I finished, "That's their plan."
"Well, we can't just give up already." Lauren began to argue, "We don't have anywhere else to go, and we still have a few years left to use this place and its school before people start to question things."
"We'll make a plan to fight back." Ally agrees, "In the meantime, we need to prepare for the worst-case scenario. We need to find somewhere else."
