"With his fingers brushing against her like that, Audrey had to work to stay focused. It was too easy to lose his words and let the heat of his touch overwhelm her. "My dad thought owning a saw meant he could make things."
Tao's hand went still and he cocked his head. "What kind of things?"
"An ER visit with a hundred stitches was the most he ever managed," she said with a laugh that pierced her heart at the same time. Her parents had been dead for years, and she missed them terribly. She would've loved for them to meet Tao, although she was sometimes grateful to be spared the task of hiding she was a werewolf from them. Being a wolf was tricky enough without having to keep it a secret from close family. She didn't envy the others in her newly minted pack who had relatives either living with them or in the area.
"I wish I could've met your dad and your mom," Tao said. "But in a way, I feel like I know them through you."
"Tao, stop," she protested. "You'll make me cry."
"They had to be remarkable people to make you, Audrey[...]"
