The Fire Within

Chapter 10

Kai followed the girl, Naomi, into a small kitchen area. He jumped as two doberman puppies jumped in front of him, growling. He backed away, feeling a tiny bit of fear run through his body. "Tim! Austin!" Naomi shouted, jumping in between Kai and the dogs, "Friend!" The dogs stared at Kai intently, then their stubby tails started to wag. "Kai, these are our dogs. Austin and Tim, spelt T-Y-M." I laughed nervously. "Cute names," I commented, "Hey there. Good killer dogs." She have him a weird look, then walked over to a pile of rags, sitting down beside it. The dogs trotted over and lay on the rags, one putting it's head in her lap. Kai stood by the door awkwardly. He had never gone over anyone's house before, let alone a girl's house. In fact, he had never had a reason to go over a girl's house, as he has never had a girlfriend. He shook his head. She's not your girlfriend, idiot, I shouted mentally at myself. You don't even know her! She looked up at him and patted the floor beside her. He fumbled nervously and sat down on the floor, blushing as his leg brushed up against hers. Neither of them said anything for a while. Naomi petted the dogs and Kai just sat there awkwardly. He ran a hand through his messy, red brown hair and opened his mouth. "So, did you and your mum name the dogs?" Stupid question. Of course they did! Who else could have? He mentally face palmed as Naomi fave him a strange look. "Of course not," she said. "I know, stupid question. I mean...wait, what?" It was now his turn to give her a strange look. She opened her mouth, then closed it almost immediately. Her face grew upset and she stood up, disturbing the almost sleep dogs. "It's getting late," she mumbled, fake yawning, before grabbing Kai's hand and pulling him up, "Come. You can sleep with me." He blushed as she tugged him down another hall, but he was still confused by her actions. He didn't ask or look back, not wanted to upset her further, but he could not displace the feeling of strange eyes on his back.

Woo! I figured a way it of the loophole I was having with the chapters and can continue writing without having to rewire the whole thing. Yay! Sadly, I had to make it too short.
