Trust Him

Scarlet

It had been two weeks since Mason found out about Bentley and everyday since then he has come by and hung out with us, today however I was going to have to go back to work but they didn't have room for Bentley today. I had no idea what I was going to do, I wanted to ask Cleo but she and Rock were going through one of their rough stages and Nikki was busy teaching at the dance school around the corner from the university. So I had no idea what I was going to do.

Just like every other morning, there was a knock at the door. "Mummy! the door!" Bentley shouted, knowing who it was at the door.

"Bentley, can you answer it please. Just make sure that check through the window before opening the door." There was silence before the latch unlocked and my son called out.

"Uncle Mason!" Taking in a breath and letting it out slowly, I started to walk out into the lion's den. I have no idea why he would tell my son to call him Uncle Mason, but I didn't like it.

He was getting too close to my baby.

"Hey Sugar Plum." Mason said with a smile, I stopped and looked at him, what the hell! Why would he call me that in front of Bentley!

"What Sugaw Pum?" Mason looked at me with a stressed smile on his face and mouthed 'whoops'

"A Sugar Plum is..." I racked my brain thinking of something to tell my very smart son.

"A Sugar Plum is a girl that is so beautiful that she could be something mythical. I call your mother Sugar Plum because that's what she is, absolutely beautiful." I looked over at Mason, not knowing what this feeling was in the pit of my stomach, it had been so long since I've heard words like that come from Mason's mouth.

God I wanted to kiss him.

"Mason can I talk to you for a second, Bentley you go and finish your breakfast."

"Okay mummy." And with that my little boy ran off, and I grabbed Mason's hand and pulled him down the little hall into my bedroom. The small room held my chest of draws, a double bed and a desk... barely. I dragged Mason in and closed the door behind him, I stood for a second trying to gather my thoughts.

"Scarlet... what are you..." I didn't let him finish his sentence. I grabbed the collars of his shirt and pulled him towards my lips. It had been so long since I had felt his lips on mine and it was like heaven on earth. Mason' arms moved from his sides to the back of my neck, he swallowed my groan as he pulled my body up against his very hard and muscular body.

It was over as soon as it started, it was like an alarm went off in my head, what the hell was I doing? Pulling away and pushing Mason to an arms distance, my chest was heaving up and down as I tried to catch my breath. "I'm sorry Mason, I don't know what came over me."

"My words maybe?" he teased. "I have been known to be a bit of a word smith with it comes to song lyrics. Who knew it would work when explaining to a little boy about how beautiful his mother was."

"Stop it Mason."

"Why?" he asked, confused. Yeah I didn't blame him

"Because Bentley already as enough questions regarding his 'Uncle' and I don't need any more to field." I said, rummaging around in her tiny chest of draws. Trying to distract my hands from pulling him to me again.

"Then why can't we just tell him the truth?"

Turning my head, I glared at the man that helped me give me my son, what the hell was he playing at? "Because then I would have to tell that very smart very innocent little boy about my family and why you were gone for so long."

I continued to move around my room, glancing every now and then at the photos that I had printed off and framed. My favourite was sitting right at the front, the day that Bentley was born, I had not only taken a picture of Bentley to show his father but I wanted to remember that feeling of holding my baby in my arms forever, so I snapped a selfie. Stupid and naive I know but I love the picture.

"Right okay then, what are you guys up today? Wanna got to the park or something?" Mason said, nervously shoving his hands into his pockets.

"I can't today Mason, I have to work and I have to find someone to mind Bentley." I had no idea what I was going to do, I could ask the newly graduated high school student down the hallway but I don't really know her well enough to trust her with my baby.

"Why don't I look after him." Mason said, bringing me out of my panicked searching.

"You want to look after him?" I asked, as all the warning flags flung up in front my eyes.

"Yeah! Why not. I promise I won't say anything to him, we could go to the park or I could bring him 'round to my place that I share with Alfie and Rock. I know that they would love him."

My mind was racing with all of the bad things that could happen, every single slip up that could occur, what they could tell my son. "I don't know Mason, what if one of them say something?"

Mason placed his hands on my shoulders, "Scarlet, trust me, trust Alfie and trust Alfie and I to keep Rock in his place."

I laughed at this, "How will you tell them what's going on? It's so last minute." I couldn't tell if I was thinking rationally or not.

"What time do you start work today?" he asked, getting his phone out.

"Not for another hour and a half."

"Okay, well come to this address..." he said sending me a message. "its about twenty minutes away and I'll head over now to get the guys ready."

I looked at my phone and tried to think of a reason not to give this idea a shot. "Trust me Sugar." And with that he kissed me on the cheek and left my bedroom.
