The Building. A charred structure erupting out of rubble, looked doleful against the lush green hills surrounding it. The air surrounding us smelt stale like moulding cheese and rust. A thick fog hung around like a blanket covering the building, a curtain hiding the stage before a grand performance.

It is 7:00 in the morning, yet the sky was a greyish blue. The cold ice like air pricked my bare arms like I had been rolling in a pile of thorns. I looked over at Elijah and the guy, they too had a look of Amaazement.

"So... do we go and look around" the guy asked.

"Sure man, this place is so cool"

"So what is your name?" I ask the guy.

"Drew"

"Okay Drew, are ready to have some fun?" Elijah questioned.

"Heck yeah"

The three of us then began walking towards the building. The building was surrounded by a concrete compound that was about five feet high. At one point the compound was broken to make way for the gate. Surprisingly the gate and compound was intact unlike the building, a lock secured the gate they must have built it recently I thought.

Elijah had already began to climb over the gate. He threw his legs over to the other side of the gate and jumped, landing perfectly on his feet. Drew Followed Elijah leaving me alone on the other side.

"I'm not so sure about this guys, what if we get caught, it's our first day!"

"Stop being such a big baby, get your ass here right now" Elijah drawled with a bored look on his face.

"Fine" I mutter. I climb up the gate with the help of the bars. I make my way to the top of the gate and look down. I was about six feet from the ground. I gulped. Taking a deep breath I let go of my hands from the bars. Standing on the edge of the bar I jumped, closing my eyes bracing myself for the impact.

My feet hit the ground sending tremors up my body. I rolled on my back, pain running down my calf muscles.
Elijah and Drew helped me up back onto my feet. I wiped my sweaty palms on my pant.
The sound of jangling keys made me look up from what I was doing. A grunt was heard. Elijah looked at me with fear in his eyes.

"Hide" he mouthed at us.

I nodded my head and started running behind Drew. The
flip-flops that I was wearing slipped off my feet because of the sweat. I bent down and scoped my slippers and ran after Elijah and Drew.
With adrenaline pumping through my blood I made a final dash towards the huge pile of rubble that Elijah and Drew were hiding behind. I skidded across the gravel ducking behind the pile of rubble.

Gasping for air I peer out to see
a man whose body was bent at odd angles came into view. He had a large key ring that hung from his belt. The man looked around before walking back towards the back of the building.

I felt a sharp sting of pain at the sole of my left foot making me wince in pain. Elijah hissed at me "Shut up"

"Sorry" I looked at my feet, a red line of blood stared back at me.

"Shit" I thought. I wipe the blood away with my thumb but a fresh line of red bubbled up to the surface.
"We do not have time for this Alec we need to get out now" Elijah whispered laying emphasis on the word now.

"I'm good, let's leave"
I slipped on the flip-flops onto my feet since I did not want to leave a trail of blood neither did I want it to get infected with some deathly disease. The three of us tiptoed towards the gate. We cautiously and quietly jumped to the other side of the gate. I turned around and looked back. Something reflected catching the sun's light. I squirted to get a better look, but Elijah grabbed me by the arm and pulled me away. Drew was nowhere to be seen, he must have left, I thought.

We had reached our rooms. Elijah released my arm.
"That was uncalled for, I'm taking a nap. I'll see you in an hour"
"I think I'll take a nap too," I say.
I enter my room and sit on the bed. I take my left foot in my hands and placed it on my lap. A tiny glass shard was embedded deep into the cut.
