Archie's POV
I'm standing in front of the mirror in my bedroom and I groan. I've tied my tie 5 times but it keeps coming out crooked. After the 6th failed attempt I pull the tie from around my neck and throw it on the ground. "Hey mister, I bought you that tie" Ronnie says walking in my room. I turn around a take a look at her. She's wearing a beautiful white dress that ends mid thigh. "Hey. You look great" I say, instantly feeling better the second I saw her. "You don't look too bad yourself, except maybe I'll help with the tie" she says laughing a bit and walking to pick up the tie. She lifts my collar up and starts to tie it. As she concentrates on the complicated twists and turns I look at her face. I start to smile wondering how I got so lucky to be dating this girl for the past 3 years. "All done!" She says clapping her hands on my shoulders and looking up at me. "What?" She asks with an adorable smile on her face, confused as to why I'm smiling at her like an idiot. "Nothing I just don't know what I did to deserve you" I say putting my hands around her waist. "Well Archiekins, we have much more time to figure that out. Or maybe I'll wise up and hit the road with some sexy drifter" she jokes with a wink. "I'll kill him" I say laughing with her. "Kids we want pictures!" My mom yells up the stairs and I groan. "Come on. She's your mother, just take some photos. And besides you look very handsome" Veronica says while dragging me out of my bedroom. We walk down the stairs hand in hand my mom gasps "awe you two look so great!" She says as she snaps photos. "Great job on the tie, son" my dad says clapping his hand on my shoulder. "That was Ronnie" I say gesturing towards her with my head. "Well great job Veronica, my son would be an absolute mess if it weren't for you" he says laughing. "I'm sure he'd eventually figure it out" she says putting her hand on my shoulder.
There's a knock at the door and my mom opens it to reveal Veronica's parents. They say hello to my parents and then walk to Veronica and wrap her in a hug. "You look so beautiful Mija" Hermione says with a proud smile on her face. "Thank you Mom" Veronica says back with a smile on her face, my favorite smile. Hiram wraps his arms around his daughter and says something to her in Spanish that I don't understand, but it was sweet because Hermione gets choked up. "Thanks Daddy, I love you too" Veronica says, also a bit choked up. Over the years Veronica's parents have worked hard to earn her trust back and they're closer than ever, which makes Ronnie happy, which ultimately makes me very happy. "Hate to break this up but we have to go if we're gonna meet your friends for pictures" my mom says intervening. "You're right we should go" Veronica says grabbing her coat and her bag.
Veronica and I get in my dads old truck, my new truck, and we take off heading for the school. After we graduate the 4 of us are all going to New York, just like I wanted us to during sophomore year. But that was just a silly dream and now it's becoming a reality. Veronica and I already picked out an apartment for the 2 of us, which will be 5 minutes away from Betty and Jughead's. "Archie" Veronica says pulling me out of my daydream. "Yeah babe?" I ask looking at her, but also concentrating on the road. "Are you nervous" she asks sitting up and looking at me. "To trip on stage before I get my diploma? Yeah" I say jokingly. She playfully slaps my arm. "No I'm serious. We're leaving for New York in 2 months. You and I living together with our parents here. All of our responsibilities? Aren't you nervous or am I the only one who is absolutely terrified?" She asks frantically. I turn and look at her and I actually see fear on her face. "Hey I was joking. It's okay" I say pulling over. I turn to face her and I pull her into my chest. She lies her head on me and exhales. "Listen. Of course I'm scared, I've never even been to New York let alone live there. But I know everything is going to be okay" I say rubbing her back. "How do you know?" She asks. I sit her up and she looks at me still worried "because you'll be there. And I'll be there. And if we're together there's nothing that we won't be able to do" I say tucking her hair behind her ear. "Now as much as I love sitting with you and making you feel better, we have to get going now. Or we'll be late for pictures" I say starting the ignition again. "Alright Archiekins" She says leaning over to kiss my cheek. I smile and start to drive again.
We pull into the schools parking lot just as Betty and Jughead are getting out of the car. Betty waves at Veronica and I and walks to our truck when we park. "Hey V" she says pulling Veronica into a hug. "Can you believe we're graduating today, and all moving away together in 2 months" she says. Veronica shakes her head while laughing a bit "not at all. It seems like just last week I moved here" she says leaning against the truck. "Guys we should really get photos now before the ceremony starts" FP says while checking his watch. I smile and clap my hands together and say "Lets go gang."
Veronica's POV
After we take about a million photos for each parent we're all headed into the gym to get in our seats for the ceremony. We're all seated separately except for Kevin and I. Archie has to head up to the front row but before he goes I grab his hand and pull his attention to me. "Alright it's time" I say smiling. "What are you so excited about. This is just a ceremony" he says cupping my face in his hands, being careful not to mess up my makeup. "Our future begins after this. We don't have parents we have to hide from. Just you, me, and the rest of our lives" I say whispering the last part and leaning in to give him a small kiss. "The rest of our lives huh? Sounds a lot like a marriage proposal, Miss. Lodge" he says jokingly. "Fat chance, Andrews. You're the one asking. But not till 22 at least, we've already established this sir" I say poking him in the chest. "Yeah Yeah. Whatever. Making me wait till 22" he mumbles. "get the hell in your seat, before I put you there" I say backing up so he has to let go of me. "No fair" he says as I walk away. "Life isn't fair" I say while maneuvering through my fellow classmates to get to my seat. I see him sit down and start talking to other people and I turn and smile to Kevin. "I can't believe we're here, Veronica" he says giving me his usual adorable smile. "Ugh I know. I'm so sad you're not coming with us though, but traveling a year before college will be such an amazing experience for you Kev" I say while leaning my head on his arm. "I know. I'm so excited. But I'll join you guys the year after, then the whole crew will be back" he says. I smile and look down and the floor. "Veronica what is it" Kevin asks concerned. "Nothing. I'm just so excited for my life with Archie, I don't want anything to ruin it" I say looking up at him. "Life with Archie? Like all of your life?" He asks surprised. "I can't imagine being with anyone else. I've never met anyone like him before, definitely wouldn't be my type 4 years ago but Archie's good. And he actually cares about me and loves me. And I feel the same for him. I just feel like I'm gonna mess it up. If it were up to Archie he and I would run to the church right now and get married, but I'm not ready to be married. I want Archie to be my first and last love, but for now I want him to be my boyfriend. At least for a few more years" I say pouring my heart out to Kevin, all of the things I've wanted to say to Archie but didn't want him to think he's being rejected. "Veronica. He loves you. That guy, no offense, doesn't have the best track record. Honestly it's a miracle he landed someone like you. And I'm almost positive he knows that" he says sincerely. "How do you know that" I ask with tears welling up in my eyes "Because of how he looks at you when you're not looking. Or when you're pigging out on onion rings at Pops" I laugh and wipe my eyes, before my makeup can get ruined. "Get over the fear of the future. Live right now" he says rubbing my upper back. "Wow Kev, that's really good advice" I laugh. "Well what can I say" he says laughing with me.
"We here at Riverdale High would like to congratulate the class of 2020! You are officially high school graduates" Principal Weatherbee says into the microphone. We all stand up and throw our caps in the air and cheer. Kevin picks me up in a hug and spins me around and plants a kiss on my cheek, "WE DID IT" he screams. I laugh and hug him back. "Lets go!" I say pulling him to the front where Betty and Archie are. Archie sees me and runs to me and picks me up. He kisses me while easing me back on the ground. I kiss him back and I break the kiss from smiling too hard. "This is it Ronnie, our future awaits" he says loud enough for only me to hear. I smile at the thought of a whole life with Archie. Our apartment. College. A house. Marriage. Kids. All of it. Our future awaits.
