Archie's POV
I'm sitting in Pops with Jughead and Betty waiting for Veronica to show up. "What did she say exactly" I ask looking at Betty. "Just that she has an idea about what we can do this weekend, since we're off school on Monday" Betty says checking her phone. I nod and I hear the bell at Pops ring and I turn to see Veronica walking towards us. "Hey guys" she says smiling at us before leaning in to kiss me hello. "Hey there" she says after pulling away. "Hey, so what's this idea you have?" I ask curiously. "Okay so I've been talking to my dad and he said that if your parents are cool with it then we can all go up to our family cabin this weekend, we'd leave tomorrow and come back Monday afternoon" she says taking her jacket off. "That'd be fun, V!" Betty says smiling. "I knew you'd love it" Veronica says sitting back. "Boys" she says looking at Jug and I. "Not to kill your happy mood or bring up the past but didn't your family lose all of you real estate except the Pembrooke?" Jughead asks. I shoot him a look that says 'don't talk about it' but he ignores it. "The cabin is in my moms name" she says. "Well then I'm in" he says sipping his milkshake. "Yeah I am too. It'll be fun" I say wrapping my arm around her. "Great. Talk to your parents about it and let me know. My parents would like to know before tomorrow" she says checking her phone. "I'd love to stay and hang out but Archie and I are supposed to have dinner with my parents" she says looking at me. "I remembered. I'm not wearing this tie because I find it comfortable" I say jokingly while pulling on my tie. She rolls her eyes and stands up. "Text me, guys" she says pointing at them "will do. Bye" Betty says smiling at us and we walk out of Pops.
We're walking on the sidewalk hand in hand and I turn my head and look at Veronica. She has no idea that I'm looking at her which makes it even better, the fact that she's always this beautiful makes me feel like the luckiest guy in the world.
Luckiest guy in the world. I repeat that in my head and look up, back at the side walk ahead of me. I am so lucky with Veronica but I still kissed Betty, well Betty kissed me, but I still didn't tell Veronica. Which makes it a secret, a lie, the fact that I'm lying to her breaks my heart. I know that she deserves better than me. "I really hope everyone can come this weekend, it'd be fun to be back at that cabin again. I haven't been there in years" Veronica says, oblivious to the fact that I'm agonizing over the fact that I kissed her best friend. "Is there a lake?" I ask trying to be in the moment with Veronica. "Yeah. It's huge, you'll love it" she says pulling me down to kiss my cheek. At the last second I turn so she's kissing my lips. She smiles into the kiss and holds the collar to my varsity jacket. "Ahem" we look up and see Mr. and Mrs. Lodge on the stoop of the Pembrooke and I quickly remove my hands from their daughter. "We just heard from the Swanson's, they changed their minds on the deal we made so we have to meet with them to negotiate. We'll have to rain check dinner." Mr Lodge says. "Oh okay. We can do that" Veronica says nodding. "Veronica dear we'll be back by lunch tomorrow, best behavior. No parties" Mrs Lodge says and Veronica nods and they enter their car. "Well looks like it's just you and me" Veronica says with a wink. I laugh and we walk inside the Pembrooke.
The next day
"I'm so happy we're all going away together" Betty says as she sits on the chair in Veronica's room. "Me too, B" Veronica says smiling. "Where's Jughead?" She asks turning to Betty. "He said he'll be here in 10 minutes" she says looking at her phone. "Veronica!" Hermione yells from the kitchen, probably another lecture about not trashing the lake house. "Brb" she says as she walks out of her room. I look at Betty and she's completely unbothered, how is she okay with what happened. "Betty we have to talk" I say running my hand through ny hair. "About?" She asks. "Don't act like that. You know it's about you kissing me, when I'm in love with Veronica" I say quietly. "We're not gonna tell anyone about that. Veronica would never forgive me and Jug-" Betty says standing up, but being cut off. "What are you talking about" we turn and see Jughead standing at the door. "Jug" Betty says with wide eyes. "Don't worry about what I heard, I guess it's only fair because of the whole Tony thing. But if I were you Arch, I'd be worried" Jughead says walking in to hug Betty. "She trusts you guys a lot, and trust isn't easy for her from what I can see, she deserves the truth" Jughead says, advocating for Veronica. "I can't. She will never forgive me. And I love her too much to lose her" I say shaking my head. "I'm sorry Archie" Betty says. I don't say anything I just nod my head, she got off easy. She kissed me and Jughead didn't care, but Veronica will be done with me. She'll find someone who doesn't kiss her best friend. "Jug you're here. We can leave now" Veronica says walking in. I look over at Jug and he gives me a sympathetic look. I stand up and walk over to Veronica "Let's go guys"
We fill up my dads truck with our stuff and we climb in, me and Ronnie in the front and Jughead and Betty in the back. After about 20 minutes into our 2 hour drive Veronica shifts and puts her feet in my lap. I use my one free hand to give her one bare foot a squeeze and she laughs. I continue to drive with only 1 hand, leaving one on her lower leg. I look at her and she's talking with Jughead and Betty laughing about something. I don't know what I'd do if Veronica breaks up with me, last time was only for a week but it felt like an eternity. I love her and I know she's it for me, that kiss with Betty meant nothing, less than nothing. I'm almost angry at Betty for this, almost. "You look lonely all the way over there" Veronica says turning her foot to poke my stomach. "Well then come here" I say lifting my hand off her leg. She smiles while unbuckling her seatbelt and moving to the middle seat leaning her head on me and I wrap my arm around her.
"We're here!" Veronica says while getting out of the truck. "And the nostalgia begins" Jughead says jokingly. "Haha Jughead, you're so funny" Veronica says returning his banter, like they usually do. Betty and I roll our eyes and follow them into the house. We all separate to look around but when I walk out onto the balcony of the master bedroom I see Veronica looking at the lake. "Wow" I say standing next to her. "I know, it's beautiful right" she says still looking at the lake. "Well I was actually talking about you but yeah I guess the lake is alright" I say with a shrug. Veronica laughs and hugs me wrapping her arms around my waist. I put my one hand on her back and my other in her hair while bending my neck a bit so I can kiss her head. "I love you" she says exhaling. "I've never had someone I can trust with everything until you, so it might've taken me longer to get here but I do love you" she says pulling away to look up at me. My hand that was in her hair is now loosely cupping her face, "I love you too Ronnie, more than anything" I say, feeling filled with guilt again. I do love her more than anything, I just hope she'll believe me when she hears about the kiss.
