Chapter 1- Genetics

Alessia was home in Texas. She was soon moving with her family for her father's business. Alessia had two older siblings; her sister Harriet, who was a year older than her and her brother Gabriel who was three years older than her. So you could just about say Alessia was the baby of the family. Harriet had red strait hair that was long like Alessia's. She had a freckle on the side of her face and she had an hour glass figure. She was about one inch taller than Alessia, but wasn't nearly as tall as Gabriel. Gabriel was tall with black wavy hair like Alessia. He was the one to help out on the farm they had in the back. The farm had dairy goats in it and wild bunnies than lived throughout it's boundaries. Some days Gabriel would sleep in the barn and stay there for days. Alessia would worry about him, but Harriet told her not to worry because he was going through a lot. And he had gone through a lot. At school he had no friends. Alessia and Harriet were the type to talk and make friends all the time, but Gabriel. Well, he didn't like talking to people unless it was something worth talking about. He got close to one friend he had, but sadly he moved away. Since they were moving, Alessia felt like Gabriel would start over and maybe have friends. She hoped he would anyways.

Alessia was also different from her brother and sister because of her telepathy she was born with. Whenever she looked anyone in the eyes for at least long enough to see their eye color she could read their mind. She did it once to her mom and say her reflection in the mirror that her eyes had turned grey! She freaked out, but her mother didn't know what was wrong. Alessia realized no one could see her eyes turn grey, well until Septer saw it when Alessia was at a party in town.

Her family was moving their farm since it was growing too big and they needed more space. Alessia's father was part of the business along with Gabriel. Her mom worked at as a teacher at their school, but said since they were moving, she would teach at their new school in the fall. It was summer, and the family packed up their things for the last time started driving.

"Gabriel, guess," Alessia laughed pointing to the mountain ahead of them. It was a long drive and the kids were all driving in Gabriel's truck pulling a trailer behind their parents who were driving in front of them. Gabriel was driving and Harriet was watching a movie in the back.

"I think, two miles," Gabriel said turning to Alessia.

"No, duh, it's gonna be five!" Alessia shouted. Gabriel shook his head and started the mile marker on his truck.

"I'm going to win this time," Gabriel said smiling.

"No! Whoever looses gets to, um, oh! Ride the rest of the way in the goat trailer!" Alessia yelled.

"Keep it down! And I don't think it's legal to do that Alessia," Harriet said taking out a ear bud. Alessia frowned.

"How about whoever looses gets to pay the other person five bucks after about ten rounds," Gabriel said smiling.

"Is there that many mountains?" Alessia sighed.

"It's a long way," Gabriel said shaking her hand on the deal.

After about five hours of driving and playing the game, Alessia lost and gave Gabriel five bucks. Apparently the mountains are closer than she thought. It was quiet in the truck. It was already getting dark which meant it was eight already. Gabriel sat their driving. Their parents had told them they were going to stop in the next town to eat and stop at a hotel for the night. Alessia stared at Gabriel's eyes and read his mind unknowingly and her eyes turned grey. Why would he be thinking about school at this time? He's thinking about, girls. Alessia said looking away from him as her eyes shuttered back to blue. Alessia had a bad habit, along with her sister, that they said everything that was in their mind. Alessia was trying to break that habit, especially since most people didn't know about her telepathy.

"Gabriel?" Alessia asked in the silence.

"Yes Alessia?" he asked.

"Why are you thinking about girls?" Alessia shrugged. All her family knew about the telepathy, like she could hide it. It was obvious sometimes that she read people's minds. Gabriel shrugged.

"I don't know," he said staring at the road.

"Gabriel, don't think about school in the fall. It'll be fine and I can introduce you to my friend's boyfriend's friends," she said smiling. Gabriel looked confused.

"What?" he asked.

"There's some guys your age that are my friend's friends. They seem like nice guys. I'm sure they will be your friends!" Alessia said smiling.

"I will meet them," Gabriel said as they turned into the hotel. She nodded. Hopefully he would be friends with them.

Finally after a long drive of, well, driving, they arrived at their newly bought house. It had big ceilings and grass covered the front yard. It was well trimmed and a giant oak tree grew by the house. It looked very nice and a cute house! The goats started 'baa-ing' in the trailer as they drove around to the back of the yard. It had a nice big barn with grass covering the yard for about three acres. There were fences set up around the yard for the goats. It was simply beautiful!

"I'm just glad I don't have to dig the post holes for the fence," Gabriel said putting his hand on the fence. They unloaded the goats into the fenced area and they jumped around in excitement. When they came into the house Harriet squealed.

"A whole bedroom for me!" she yelled pointing to the room.

"Yes, we all have our own rooms. Except for me and your father," their mother said. Her red hair was draped over her shirt like an apron and their father was smiling at the sight of their excitement.

"This is amazing! Thanks momma! Thanks dad!" Alessia yelled hugging them. She loved her parents. They were the best.
