Chapter 4- Rain

"Hey sleepyhead!" Leo teased splashing Alessia with cold water. She flinched at the cold droplets that hit her face and arms.

"What time is it?" Alessia said looking at the sky.

"The pool party goes all day," Simon said reloading his water gun.

"Yeah, but what time is it?" Alessia asked again.

"It's about five," Leo said licking his lips. "Why are my lips so dry?" he muttered and Alessia took a glance at his burning red chest. She couldn't help but laugh.

"You are super sunburned Leo!" Alessia said pointing to his chest. He looked down and gasped. He felt his forehead and looked at his arms. His face was in utter shock.

"I forgot sunscreen," Leo muttered as Simon joined in laughing.

"It's okay Leo, you're not the only one," Simon said pointing towards Jackson, who's cheeks were bright red.

"That's not sunburned, he's just sweating," Alessia said pointing to him in the hot tub. She stepped into the pool and laughed. "Or he's embarrassed!" she said as Simon and Leo joined in laughing. He did look embarrassed. Rachel was sitting outside of the pool talking with Septer. Alessia didn't know why he looked so embarrassed, but she didn't want to know the reason.

"Where's Peter?" Septer asked turning to look around. All the sudden a wet water balloon popped on Septer's back. She turned around to see Peter holding water balloons in both hands. Septer chased after him as Peter began throwing water balloons at her. Suddenly, a wet balloon exploded hitting Alessia in the back of the head.

"Hey!" she said turning to see Sam smiling with water balloons in each hand. He threw one at her, but it bounced off. Alessia picked it up and started chucking it into Sam's face. Water balloon war had broke out! It was like a battle field of balloon pieces all over the ground. Simon squirted his water gun as Leo found the hose and began spraying it.

Somehow, two teams had formed; one with all the girls and one with the guys. The girls devised a plan that when Septer would pelt them with water balloons they would take their 'weapons'. That plain failed. The water balloons would bounce off of the guys, extremely tough, chests and take the balloons and chuck them at her! Alessia would climb up a tree and wait for someone to come under it so she could drop balloons at them. The victim was Sam. He had a water gun and ran under the tree to hide. Alessia took her aim and threw about ten water balloons at him full force!

"Wh-ahh!" Sam yelled trying to squirt the water gun at her, but the balloons blocked his shot. When she ran out, she hopped down and ran! Sam was a whole lot faster than her. She tried to zig-zag around the grassy yard. She ran until her side hurt and fell to the ground holding her hands up in the air.

"I surrender!" she said out of breath. Sam hit the ground basically tripping over her because he was running so fast. He pointed the gun at her.

"Surrender what?" he asked smiling. He wasn't breathing as hard as her. He looked amused.

"Surrender...uhh, being chased?" Alessia said laying down looking towards the sky. Sam put his hand under his hand and looked up at the sky. They laid there as Alessia breathed hard and looked up at the sky. The clouds made pretty blotted patterns throughout the sky. Alessia's breath finally slowed down. "What do you see in the clouds?" she asked looking up at them.

"I see, a dragon," Sam said pointing to the clouds. Alessia turned to his face. She wasn't expecting for him to turn his head and she read his mind. He's thinking about my face again. she thought turned her head and sitting up. She wanted to ask why he was thinking about her face, again, but she didn't want him to exactly know she could, read minds.

"You think the battle is over?" Alessia said pointing over to the group of people. He sat up and she could feel him staring at her, but refused to look into his eyes again.

"You've changed since sixth grade," Sam said. Well that came out of no where. Alessia thought turning to face him, avoiding eye contact. She raised her eyebrows.

"So have you," she stated. Alessia could feel him staring at her and she hated the fact that he was staring at her face. It was kind of rude not to look at someone when they are looking at you, but she didn't want to read his mind even though it may be interesting. She stood up and stared walking over to the pool. She hated to be stared at, especially in the eyes.

It was getting dark and unlike what Simon had said, the party was ending and not going all night. The stars were coming out and people were leaving left and right. Since Peter was Alessia's ride home she had to wait for them. They were talking to Rachel and Jackson who were just about the last ones there. Alessia sat beside the pool with her feet dangling in the water.

"Hey Alessia," a voice called from behind her she looked up and saw Sam. She had forgotten this was his house and he couldn't exactly leave all that easy. He sat down next to her and put his feet in the water.

"Hey Sam," Alessia replied back looking in the pool to see his reflection staring at her. She got annoyed. "Why do you keep staring at me?" she said pushing his shoulder. Sam just laughed.

"Because you're pretty," he said smirking. Alessia smiled at the thought of someone calling her pretty. She had heard it many times coming from her parents, but it wasn't that often a guy told her she was actually beautiful. She knew she was pretty, but sometimes she wanted to hear it from someone besides her parents.

"Why do you say that?" Alessia smiled asking as she looked into the reflection of them sitting there. Sam laughed as if she was joking.

"Look at you, your hair, your face, it's just beautiful," Sam shrugged still looking at her. Sam looked confused and his eyebrows shrugged. "Why don't you look at me, in the eyes?" he asked frustrated. Alessia really hated to hear that question. She wished she could tell him and he not freak out. But she had told some friends before, even a guy she liked once and they found her as some kind of a 'freak'. Alessia shook the thought and opened her mouth to speak.

"I, really don't like looking into people's eyes that's all. I feel like I will get too, umm, personal," Alessia tried to explain. She wasn't lying, by looking at people's minds she did get a little personal.

"Why wouldn't you want to get personal?" Sam said scooting closer to her. She felt an awkward alert come to mind. Does he like me or something? she asked herself. It was an internal battle between turning and reading his mind or trying to ignore it. After fighting with herself with an amount of minutes she glanced up at his eyes and looked away. Her eyes didn't go grey, not like he could see, and she didn't read his mind.

"There. I looked you in the eyes," she stated looking at her feet swirling the water beneath her. Then she felt her hand being touched. Sam held her hand. She was more than shocked, surprised would be the word. She turned to his hand holding hers.

"Is something wrong?" Sam asked smirking and still, looking at her. Alessia looked up at him, not looking him in the eyes; simply looked him in the, nose.

"Look Sam," Alessia began. She waited a minute but didn't know what to say. Then she gathered her words. "I think you're just going a, little fast," she said trying her hardest not to look him in the eyes.

"I understand," Sam said turning towards the water. Then he leaned over and whispered in her ear. "We'll take it slow,"

"Alessia! We're ready to leave," Septer said motioning her from across the pool. Alessia nodded and stood up releasing her hand from Sam's grip.

"I've got to go," Alessia said pointing towards Septer.

"Okay, you know where I live. Come by any time," Sam said smiling as he waved bye to her. What was that supposed to mean? Was he expecting me to come over a lot? she thought. Peter and Septer and her walked over to his car and drove home. They dropped Alessia off first and she waved 'goodbye'. She walked into her new room and smelled the air. There's no place like home.
