Vanessa's POV
It has been a while since I reconnected with my old friends. Their absence resonate the walls of this town. Cutting straight to the chase, there is no one to replace them.
But that doesn't mean I'm comparing them to Cody and Edith. Hannah and Julie are different, and I miss that element of our friendship. I resort to call Hannah, which goes straight to voicemail. I then call Julie.
"Vanessa?", her voice has a tone of confusion mixed with ecstasy.
"Hi, Julie..."
"Thank God. You finally called. I was waiting for your call!"
"I know. I'm sorry. I'm still trying to get adjusted to this new place. It's completely alien and a mess."
"Really?"
"You don't know the half of it!"
"So, how's the new school? Made any friends?"
"Ya. I guess"
"What? That's all I get?"
"Well, okay. There's this guy-"
"Oh my God! I knew it! Of course there's a guy! Why couldn't you tell me before?"
"Seriously, Julie! Grow up! He's gay! And he is one of the first people I met. You need to learn to relax and let people finish their sentences"
"Oh, I'm sorry. I jumped into conclusions too soon"
"You think?", I asked sarcastically.
"Okay. Okay. Tell me more."
I tell her about Cody, Edith and about the singing part time job. It feels good to talk to her. Distracting even. A good distracting.I feel happy and more nostalgic. We talk for about an hour or so.
I am already done with my homework and today is Thursday, which means an off at the restaurant for me. Boredom reeked every ounce of my soul.
Dex! I need you!
He is lying next to my bed, waiting to be played. Poor thing. I feel like singing for him. It would be highly unfair to Dex, if I didn't. Both of us feel elated when that happens.
I didn't have any song on my mind in particular. I would sing the first thing that came to my mind. Since, I'm feeling extremely nostalgic, I thought of playing something old and special. I begin strumming.
"
You would not believe your eyes
If ten million fireflies
Lit up the world as I fell asleep
'Cause they'd fill the open air
And leave tear drops everywhere
You'd think me rude
But I would just stand and stareI'd like to make myself believe
That planet Earth turns slowly
It's hard to say that I'd rather stay awake when I'm asleep
'Cause everything is never as it seems'Cause I'd get a thousand hugs
From ten thousand lightning bugs
As they tried to teach me how to dance
A foxtrot above my head
A sock hop beneath my bed
The disco ball is just hanging by a thread
