We went to the Ashram after some time. The kids flocked around me. I don’t know why I was sceptical to see them. They loved me.

They all tried to hug me at once, what surprised me latter was, that they hugged him with as much vigour as they hugged me. They said, “We missed you Kartik Bhaiya”

He offered to take them all to Ganga Ghat. And they were all really excited to be there. I knew this excitement. I knew how, much fun it was to go back to that place.

He said, “Go ask your Tina Di, if she will accompany us?”

“Yes she will. She loves to go there.” Smallest one said.

I smiled at her. Of course I did. It was my morning routine, to go and talk to Ganga Maiya on the Ganga Ghat, to breathe the soothing water and soot of fire near by, to hear chants of Mantras. The place had an enticing beauty, indescribable by words, only meant to be felt and experienced.

The return grin I got from Kartik was the best ever.

He went out to look for some arrangements. I wondered what? But he assured me he would come back in a blink of my eye.

I caught up with kids. I didn’t know a few of them. I assumed they were a part of my lost memories. But it seemed even they didn’t know me.  Why was that? How could they not know me, I would have come to visit them, weekly at least? Or did Kartik stay way too far?

Pungi was very excited to have me back. She pulled me around, vigorously explained about everything recently happening around. I was pleased to know that the Ashram was in the best state it could have expected to be in. The children were flourishing marvellously.

Kartik came back in some time. All set to take everyone out. He came to me and said, “Close your Eyes.” I opened them even wider.

“Don’t stare down at me, close your eyes.” He repeated.

When I failed to oblige again, he simply came from behind me, and shut my eyes with his fingers.

Nudging me to walk, he lead me ahead to whatever destination he had planned. I still held my hands forward while walking, to keep myself assured that I wouldn’t fall. But I needn’t have worried, he would have, as he always did, would have made sure that I didn’t fall. His grip firm, yet gentle.

He halted me I knew we were out, and whispered “Ready” his breath hot in my ear. Igniting something deep inside me. Unable to catch hold of myself I nodded, slowly.

When he opened my eyes, I could see the jeep. A open jeep, brought for us. It had been my love. I always snatch it way from someone or another driving one of these. It was indeed a very pleasant surprise.

“So what do we do? Panja ladayen, ya toss karen?” he asked. I looked at him confused.

“Well I won’t just give away the chance of driving this beauty. And very obviously you want to drive it as well. So...” I replied.

“Let’s toss. I don’t think your ego could stay alive after loosing in hand strength.” He smiled, an undertone his curve of lips. A smile which didn’t reach his eyes for some reason.

I decided to pass it. I was tried of no answers. He would simply deny telling me anyway. I sighed sadly.

“So,” he picked up on his perkiness again, “Toss it is. Heads you win, tails I loose.” He said.

And even before I could nod, I saw the coin up in the air, ready to come down.

“Yayy it’s tails, you loose.” I exclaimed. He conceded, pouting prettily. He gave me those car keys, and the children started getting on it. He hopped on to the passenger seat, and I gave him a smile. He was a bit pensive since some time, but returned the smile, his effort visible to my eye. I could only sigh.

Kartik’s POV

It was bad idea. I knew it. Remaking situations for her, making her recall something in past. It had no effect. But I tried really hard to stop myself. The situation presented itself, and I couldn’t just let it slide.

I should have known better than to just expect that. But my heart wasn’t making it easier for me. I wanted her back and soon.

“Kartik.” Negi Uncle called me.

“Yes uncle?” I replied drawn away from my thoughts.

“Don’t get upset son. She will remember everything in good time.” He said

I looked at him hopeful, “I hope. She does.”

“She will. But meanwhile son, you cannot start looking upset. She reads your fake smiles. Do you notice her smiles, turning into frowns every time you give her one?” he told me

Yes I had. I had seen her smiles faltering. I had noticed her frowns seeing me. But she chose not to speak about it. I wondered why? Tina I knew always said something about everything. Then why?

“You’ll get her back son. I do not mean to guilt trip you. You are doing the best anyone can in this situation. Just keep patience my dear, it will be alright very soon.” He said. Ruffling my hair a but. I smiled at him, “With everyone’s blessing I will take my Naira back with me.”

I turned to see her. She looked shocked. I don’t know why, her eyes said betrayal. Liar. I didn’t like that look. But before I could explain anything she ran..
