The Dryad's Dance

There she sat in bed gazing out into the world

Under her sheets, away from the wind that whirled

From the frosted glass, she saw the thawing forest

It's green mysteries beckoned, but she had no true trust

Her crystal hazel eyes peered out of the window from beneath

Then, like a sudden illusion, she saw the dryad adorned by a wreath

Oh, how joy entered her heart and out like a bullet she leapt

She wished to dance with the dryad and forever be kept

I watch her every time I fly by the edge of my forest

With the eyes of a hawk, I see her with divergent interest

A young girl, alone in her abode and dancing in the dark

Her movements like a young stream and her spirt like a lark

I often see her yearning to come closer, but the danger impending

It keeps her away from my reach, oh for her embrace I am aching!

Spring's eve is coming, the sun sets and closer she will come

In my leafy arms, together we will no longer be lonesome
