Summer Flies

Crickets sing the nights away as the breeze dwindles

The sun has come to play but burns if stayed too long

Water hits the sand gently as the ocean calls us with song

Lazy days, sunflowers, ladybugs and memories fill the heart

No assignments due the next day, it's time for us to play

Beach, camping, forest, rivers, adventures 'round the corner

All the laughter and joy comes in moments that seem to flutter

Wheat fields, going back in time, history and nostalgia visit

Children laughing, screaming, playing, braids and ponytails undone

Sweaty faces, gleaming eyes, contagious smiles as they run

High school kids and college kids are ready to hit the stores

Dresses, swimsuits, sunglasses – and don't forget the treats

For a brief time each year, people smile, live carefree

Never worry about tomorrow – they know it will be fun

Taking risks, exploring, learning new things about the world

Summer's the time to relax and play, do things you never dreamed
