Chapter 5
"I found the glitter spray!" Silvia announced loudly, holding up the canister of silver sparkles with the sort of victorious air of one having found the holy grail itself.
"Woo!" Adler threw up his hands in appreciation.
Camry just laughed as she continued coloring in the letters on her sign. She didn't have time to stop. They needed to get moving here pretty soon, and she had to finish this sign before they could leave. While Camry wouldn't have cared either way about having a sign, Silvia insisted. It was going to make the experience so much better, she had said.
Since this weekend was for Silvia anyway, Camry had acquiesced and began designing her sign. She could even feel herself getting pulled into Silvia's excitement. There was something fun about this, in a strange way. It wasn't like she was really even protesting this weekend. That wasn't what the rally was about. At least, not fully.
In a way, it was sort of like a concert or a festival. There was even going to be bands playing. Occasionally, between the speakers, but there was music.
Good friends, good music, and doing good for the environment. That was what the All Good Gathering was all about. At least, that's what the fliers were saying.
The rally was partially about inspiring the protestors and bolstering their numbers. But it was also a chance to do some fund raising. Since the event was bringing in even more people from out of town - and their money with them - the Summitville residents weren't all that bothered. Besides, there was going to be food as well. It was almost like a fair.
Camry had even heard that some of the Geovation construction workers would be going. It was a day off, they said, and it wasn't like there was ever anything else to do in this town. They could endure some lame speeches for the chance at food and fun.
Garrett Goodall himself was going to be leading the event. It was going to start this afternoon, lasting all the way through to Sunday night.
It was his speech today during the opening ceremony that Silvia was looking forward to the most. She was an ardent supporter of Goodall, one might even say an outright fan. She held the man up to a level of hero worship she had given to no one else in her life. Even Adler admitted that he was a genuinely good person that he looked up to and idolized.
Camry only knew about him what Silvia had told her. She imagined that he was a nice guy. Definitely hard working and charismatic to have built up such a large following. It would be interesting to finally hear him speak.
As Silvia sprayed glitter around the letters of her sign, humming happily as she did so, Camry finished the last touches on her own. It was simple, with large but thin letters that declared simply 'End of the Line'. It also received a light glitter treatment, satisfying Silvia. Camry thought it looked fine without it, but allowed it because the glitter made Silvia happy.
Gathering their signs, the three of them walked from the hotel room and out towards Silvia's car. She was jumping around excitedly.
"This is going to be so much fun!" She announced, throwing her arms around both Camry and Adler's shoulders. Adler had both her sign and his under his arm. She was carrying her own purse for once, but Camry didn't imagine that would last long.
"Did you tell her the good news, babe?" Adler asked, beaming.
"What good news?" Camry smiled between them.
"Oh! Yeah." Laughing a bit maniacally, and rubbing her hands together stereotypically for good measure, Silvia leaned in to whisper. "We're filing a suit against Geovation.
