I pack all my things and check out of the hotel. I felt nothing but guilt about what happened to Karen. See, guilt is one of the worst demons to bear. It strangles you, from inside your body. I just felt a huge weight pulling down on me. I also felt guilty about pointing the finger at Mandy. She did nothing wrong.
I take the L to the Southside and head home. Ethan walks downstairs and stops at the middle of the staircase as we meet eye contact. His eyes were red, bags under his eyes, he looked disheveled.
"You're back." He walks over to the kitchen, and I drop my bags following him.
"Yeah, is everything okay?" I ask, and he hums.
"Besides the fact that Mandy ran Karen over with her car." He takes a sip of a big glass of water.
"Yeah about that." I begin and I stop myself. He's going to hate me when he hears that I was once again with Silas.
"What?" He spats and I fake a smile. Spit it out Arielle; he's going to find out sooner or later.
"It- " I sigh, and Mandy walks downstairs toward the kitchen in a blue sequenced dress and heels.
"You're back!" She pulls me in for a hug and I hug her back feeling the guilt weigh on me again. "Thanks for answering my fucking calls." She nudges me.
"Yeah I just needed to go away for a while." I mumble and look over to Ethan who was avoiding eye contact.
"Hear about Karen? Bitch fucking deserved it." She laughs, and I just stand there blankly. Ethan looked pissed and walked away.
"I actually visited her in the hospital last night." I run my arm uncomfortably.
"Why would you do that?" She snarls and I remain silent. "Anyways get dressed! You didn't forget about Mickey's wedding right?" She walks over to our big mirror in the living room. "I borrowed your earrings I hope you don't mind."
"I don't." I say looking through my phone to text Ian. I knew he must be a wreck about Mickey's wedding today. I walk up to my bedroom with my bags and put on a cocktail dress. I missed dressing up and was thrilled to actually use one of my dresses that had been collecting dust.
I hear arguing downstairs and the front door slamming. I put on my heels and grab my clutch. Ethan was seated down on the couch with his head buried in his hands. He hears my heels click and looks up at me.
"You look beautiful." He smiles and I notice his eyes are redder than before.
"I feel like I'm begging to get robbed blind wearing this." I laugh, and he doesn't. "Mandy left?"
