I walk in the school with Ethan by my side. All eyes always stood on us with fear written on the faces. Ever since I beat up Karen Jackson and Ethan beat up one of the star players of the football team, people fear us. It felt too damn good, and I will honestly miss it. We attended this school for a short period but surely made a name for ourselves.
We spot Lip in the hallway leaning against the wall waiting for us. It was a special day, a day we've been waiting for so eagerly.
"Ready?" Lip asks us and then kisses me on the cheek.
"Let's get this over with." Ethan opens the door, and we walk into the school's main office space full of cubicles for some staff.
Mr. Healey stands up when he sees us approaching and opens the drawer. He hands us each a piece of paper that means a lot, our diplomas.
"It's moments like this that make the job worth it. Crap pay, miserable working conditions, but the chance to change one's special kids life. Congratulations you three." He says in awe.
We all have smiles plastered on each other's faces while staring at the piece of paper. Lincoln Grove High School graduate, Arielle Rivera. It was a great feeling, especially knowing college is the next stop in my future.
"Guess this is where I thank you for never giving up on me, heh." Lip chuckles as he stares at the diploma. Lip folds the paper and starts to walk out. "See you, Dick." He says.
"Uhm thanks." Ethan laughs after and starts to walk out the door.
"Thank you, Mr. Healey." I smile, and he nods.
"You're a good influence on Phillip, make sure he doesn't end up in jail. Lots of teachers have bets on it." He calls out as I leave the office.
I catch up with the guys, and they were discussing how to celebrate graduating. We all decide on the Alibi and head over. It was a bit too early to be celebrating, but since Lip is the first in his family to graduate, it was a big deal.
We walk in and sit at the bar, I grab a drink menu and skim through it. "Hey Kate, can we get three shots," Lip asks.
"And enable your truancy? This place is pathetic enough already." She rants while looking at the three of us.
"Not skipping school. Surprisingly they let me graduate." Lip smiles, I knew he was proud of himself. Reminds me of when he tried to drop out for Karen. I'm happy he didn't go through with it.
"We're celebrating, so keep them going. I'll open up a tab." Ethan says, and she raises her eyebrows.
"All three of you graduated today?" We all nod and she smiles. "Good for you, first ones in the house." She heads over to grab alcohol and pours us some shots.
