s*t*a*r*s/J*A*D*E*S
"I got it!" yells Rylee as she rushes to the house phone. No one has a land line anymore, well, no one but her mother and father. Her parents are so old fashioned sometimes. She snatches up the black phone and swings it to her ear. "Scott residence."
"How is my granddaughter?" asks Henry Young as the line buzzes with life.
"Grandfather," says Rylee with a bright smile. She hears the happiness in her own voice. "I'm fine. Going back to school next week, how are you doing?"
"I was going to head to California for Jonathan Wheaton's memorial service, think your mother would mind a house guest?" asks Henry. There is a grave edge to his voice and Rylee picks up on it but doesn't comment on it, instead she decides to keep it light.
"I don't care if she minds or not, you can come anytime you want," says Rylee. "Wait till you see the house, its great! Right on the water, the surfing isn't great but I can still go out on a board and drift around."
Her grandfather, Henry, now in his 60's, still works, although his newspaper to date is an online journal. She hears something behind her and turns to see her mom coming from the back room. "Mom, it's Grandpa."
"Goodness, Grandpa?" says Henry. "Tell Emma Young to call her father more often."
"I heard," says Emma with a grunt. She adjusts her gun on her hip. "Tell him I'm a busy FBI agent."
"I heard," says Henry and Rylee rolls her eyes. "I'll be there tomorrow, think you can come pick me up?"
"Sure, what time?" asks Rylee. "Provided that mom let's me have her car, oh wait, never mind, we can use Spencer's."
