hopper went over to the wheelers house , so she wouldn't be bored out of her mind while he worked everything out about her going to school.
mike wasn't home, he was at the byers with the rest of the boys, but nancy had a whole day planned with a bunch of places to go.
el walked up the stairs and into nancy's room, where she was blaring her favorite music on the radio.
nancy turned her head as she heard the door try to be opened. as she unlocked, she excitedly said "hey, el! i have s fun day planned for us! com on!" el stared at for a second, and then quietly replied "o-ok!"
the two ran out the door, as nancy screamed "going to to the mall, mom! taking be car!" into the house.
not waiting for a response, the two girls jumped into the front seats of the car and began to drive past loch nora.
el started to press all the buttons in the car, as she turned on the a/c, heat, radio, and windshield wipers.
"woah! ok, el. you can stop pressing buttons now. we are almost at the mall!" nancy informed her, before pulling into the parking lot of the downtown hawkins mall.
"what's- mall?" el questioned. "a mall is a place that contains many different stores where you can walk around and look for clothes and stuff!" nancy filled her in on everything most people do at the mall, carefully listening, wanting to be a normal kid.
they walked in the main entrance through the metal-rimmed glass door, and began their shopping spree.
nancy had a specific list of what they were going to do.
1st: get el three new outfits for her to completely love.
2nd: get el's hair washed and straightened.
3rd: get el's makeup done, a pink-ish natural eyeshadow look.
el looked down at the paper in confusion, wondering why she needed these to be down to her.
"why am i doing this, nancy?" el asked her. "um-," nancy paused, "you'll see!"
the two walked into various stores throughout the crowed mall, and got her three very stylish outfits.
the first was a a mustard yellow cropped "shirt-jacket" crossover and a jean skirt.
the second was a short-sleeve black dress, with a white boy winched in at the waist.
the final was a white distressed shirt that read "stranger and unusual" in bold leathers, with jean shorts.
el decided to stay dressed in the third outfit, and was so excited! "thank you, nancy!" el squealed in excitement. "don't thank me quite yet! we have a lot more to do!" nancy was such a great sister figure.
nancy had a certain idea for el's hair in mind. her hair would be straightened but have a couple of waves here and there.
nancy brought her over to the hair place, and told the stylist what they want.

after about three hours perfecting her hair, el was completely estactic!
"do you think mike will like it, nancy?" el asked his sister. she scoffed. "of course! you could be wearing dirty brown rags and you'd still take his breath away! let's go! we have one final thing.
nancy quickly dragged el over to the makeup salon, and perfected her look.

"let's go home now el! you're going to have lots of fun tonight!" replied nancy excitedly.
el couldn't wait to see what was going to happen.
