Chapter 12

It was night in the Amazon jungle, every non nocturnal creatures are busy resting from another long day of surviving. Whilst the the ones who do dwell in the night prowl the jungle floor. For two particular felines, it's the trees that they prowl on.

Ever since their faithful meeting with Darknova, Andrea and Saphira, Scratch and Caster moved out of the city to live in the Amazon jungle with Marcy. Apart from staying with their boss, they found the jungle life more exciting then their city life. Sure it's a lot harder here in the jungle, dangerous even, but the abundance of small rodents and fishes make up for the downsides of living in the Amazon. Besides the constant threat of other big cats, caimans, snakes and large harpy eagles that is.

On this peaceful night, particularly every night. The two felines would do patrols around their newly acquired home. Making sure no other felines would claim it as their own. Even if a jaguar would come this two felines would even dare to scare it off. They already scored 10 undefeated defends against multiple intruders in the past few days. On this particular night however, their record might be at stake.

"Scratch, I got something", Caster held up a paw, stopping himself and Scratch on their tracks. "Whatever it is, it's heading towards our direction."

Scratch sniffed the air, confirming Caster's discovery, "I too Caster, quick, come with me, let's ambush this trespasser."

The two former stray cats nodded once at each other before bolting into the darkness. Now covered by the shadows, the two felines lay and wait for their quarry to come within striking distance. The cats waited in baited breath, listening, smelling and looking around their surroundings in feline alertness, not letting a single small detail overlooked. Seconds of waiting turned to minutes as Scratch and Caster remained alert, adrenaline pumped in their veins, slowly making them impatient. It appears their quarry hasn't appeared yet or has turned around at the last minute and ran away.

Scratch sniffed the air for any signs of their intruder while Caster peered through the darkness in hopes of finding their lost quarry. But alas, they found no trace of their elusive trespasser. Disappointed by how things turned out for them tonight, Scratch signalled her brother to return back to their little den near Marcy's family tree for some rest. The feline duo proceeded to jump across tree branches as they made their way to their boss's home.

"What a let down, I was really looking forward to use our new combo move we came up with weeks ago", Caster complained while they stealthily jump the tree branches.

"Well we did made an example with that trespassing jaguar several days ago, so it's no surprise that predators are actively trying to avoid our territory", Scratch ignored her brother's whining as she theorized the reason for their uneventful night.

"Yeah, we really scares them--GAH!!" Caster was suddenly sent flying towards the base of the tree they just landed on by something. This caused Scratch to stop as well and jumped to her brother's location.

"Are you alright Caster?" Scratch asked, worried for her brother.

"Just got the wind knocked out of me sis, no biggie", Caster assured his sister as he took a breather from the pain.
