An inhuman threatening growl reached my ears. If I had not been wrapped safely in Daniel's arms and if I would not be as affected by Daniel's proximity as I had been, I would have freaked out, but I did not.

My brain, which was similar to a marshmallow right now, realized too late, where the growl was coming from. When it did, I was already pressed into the closest wall and Daniel's back was turned to me, because he stood in what resembled a protective stance in front of me.

Out of instinct I touched his back and noticed an immediate change in his posture.

"It's just the nurse, Daniel!", I told him reassuringly not needing to lean forward to make sure he heard me, because Daniel was still close to me.

My touch had relaxed him, but my voice must had done the trick, because Daniel straightened up instantly and called angrily: "Ms. Martin."

The now fiery red face of the nurse appeared in the door, her gaze casted downwards.

"I'm so sorry Alpha, I..!", she immediately started to apologize without looking into Daniel's eyes even once.

"Silence!", Daniel shouted and I cringed at his booming voice. His voice sounded so different now, more rough.

The nurse stopped her babbling immediately and lowered her head even more to the ground.

"Is my mate good to go?", Daniel wanted to know and the nurse nodded her head once.

My heart sank when I heard Daniel calling me mate, because somewhere in my mind I knew that mate meant friend. So he just thought we were friends.

My eyesight started to get blurry and I realized that I was seconds away from crying, because the man I knew for a day did not return my foolish feelings.

I sucked in a deep breath not wanting Daniel to see me like this and tightened my hold on the towel in order to feel more comfortable.

"Good! Now leave!", Daniel ordered harshly and the nurse immediately vanished from the doorway.

Daniel inhaled deeply for a few seconds and then turned around again. I had collected myself somehow, but was now angry that he had been so rough with the nice nurse.

"You didn't have to be so mean to her!", I told him accusingly, but when I noticed the still present yearning in his eyes my anger at him vanished.

Daniel had just refered to me as a friend, but now he was looking at me like he wanted to devour me.

Just the thought made me shiver once again.

"We need to get you dressed.", was all Daniel told me before he practically stormed out of the bathroom.

My knees buckled and my back slid down the wall so that I was now sitting on the bathroom floor.

What had just happened?

First Daniel was almost kissing me and then he called me his friend? Did I misread the signs?

I shook my head at my thoughts, because it had been very clear to me what Daniel had wanted to do to me.

I lowered my head on my knees, because I still wanted to feel his lips on mine, even though I knew Daniel's feelings for me were not the same.

However, what I still did not get was why he was so cruel towards the nurse. She had even lowered her head to show him respect. I lifted my head immediately when I remembered the nurse bowing to Daniel. Somewhere in my mind I knew what it meant, but I could not take a hold of this piece of information yet.
