"It's good to see you again!" Kelly joyfully stated as she noticed me. I stopped in my tracks and turned around to look at her.
"Hello," I greeted and walked up to her as she took her coat off and placed it in her locker.
"Feeling better?"
"Yeah, not completely fine though. But well enough to spend my days in school again I guess," I explained with a shrug.
"Well, I'm glad! See you at lunch?"
"Sure!"
Harry kept texting me, making sure I still felt fine. It was hard to convince him to let me go to school this morning, but he finally gave in because of my stubbornness. I couldn't stay home for another day, it just stressed me out. I had nothing to do at home and I could not imagine anything else except the pile of papers and home works that just kept waiting for me. Missing one single day of school, and you're literally dead.
I didn't look where I was going as I made my way to my locker before lunch, guess I was caught up in all of those papers I just mentioned. I bumped into somebody, and I just closed my eyes and tried to gain some focus. I could feel the heat reach my cheeks and prepared myself mentally for an embarrassing situation.
"Aw, look at that! Still blushing at the sight of me!" I let out a deep sigh.
"Stop it, and pick that up," I demanded pointing at the paper that slowly had fallen to the floor after our small collision. Harry did as he was told and placed it back on my folder that I was carrying on my arm.
"Still think coming here was a good idea?" he asked as he walked next to me through the hallway.
"Sure, why wouldn't it?"
"I dunno, just seems like you've got a lot on your plate right now." We stopped next to my locker, and instead of opening it, I rested my back against it.
"You're right, I do," I confessed. He placed his hands on my cheeks and I rested my head against his shoulder.
"Can't we just run away somewhere?" The words left my mouth before I could stop them.
"Sure, just let me know when and where and I'll take us there." A gentle kissed was placed against my forehead before he intertwined our fingers and headed towards the cafeteria.
Was he serious about that whole "run away"-thing?
"This was actually pretty good," Kelly said in an attempt to start a conversation. I looked down at the food that she was referring to, but couldn't exactly agree. Harry slowly chewed on his pasta, but his expression showed that it was a struggle. "You know what, I'm tired of this! I'm tired of everything! I'm tired of not knowing what the hell I'm eating, where the food's from or if it's fresh or not! I think I should visit the principal and beg him to do something about it! Seriously, this sucks!" I threw my fork back onto the plate and crossed my arms. Kelly and Harry just looked at me, then at each other and back to me again.
"I'll meet you in the lot," Harry said as he went back inside the school after his wallet that he claimed he'd forgotten. I continued out into the fresh air and walked down to his Range Rover. It was locked, of course. I pulled my coat tighter around my body and waited for him to get back, when a voice suddenly asked:
"Amber? Amber Carter?" I turned around and looked into the eyes, or more like glasses, of a girl that was unknown to me. She was a bit familiar though, I'd seen her in the hallways every now and then. Always in a hurry.
"Yes," I slowly answered.
"My name's Andrea Hamill. I run the school paper, and I have to admit that I overheard you in the cafeteria today at lunch, and really liked your opinions." I was stunned for a while before even realizing what she was talking about.
"Okay, well, thank you," I awkwardly said, not exactly knowing where she was going with this.
"It's true, I really did! So that's why I have this thing I would like to ask you."
uh oh
"I was wondering if maybe you could consider working at the paper, along with me and many other students of course. We even get help from Tom Cartwright once in a while, which is great considering the development of the paper. Mr Cartwright is specially educated in journalism in case you didn't know that."
"Never heard of him."
"Well, he's great, and a big name in the business. Anyway, back to my offer. I think you have the potential to be something great, at least you have the right thoughts and you bring up the questions that needs to be answered. For the student's sake at least. I think we might need you on our team."
I blinked in surprise once again. Why is everything happening so fast all the time? My head started to hurt, and coming to school today was obviously a bad idea after all. I bet Andrea noticed my state since I started to rub my temples in an attempt to think at all.
"You don't have to make the decision now, just keep it in mind."
"Thank you, I really am grateful. I've just had a rough day. I'll see what I'll do," I said and forced a smile. Andrea just nodded and smiled a small smile, but it couldn't completely hide her disappointment.
"Well, it's up to you. Thank you for taking your time." I actually got surprised when she stretched out her hand, waiting for me to shake it. She was so formal. I took her hand and we said our goodbyes before she eventually left.
What just happened?
