**Black hat manor. 22:24 p.m....**

In all of Kale's ten years of working for the regulators, he could honestly say that he was seasoned enough to where nothing truly surprised him anymore.
Hell, you work around Heroes, mutants and magical folk for so long, you just start to accept the fact that nothing's ever really under your control. Ever. That way nothing ever CAN surprise you...

That being said, there were some exceptions to that rule of thumb, and one of the most notorious Villains home base left with not a single security measure for him to potentially dodge or slip past was one of them.

It was unsettling but there had been a considerable amount of activity seeming to happen here recently, a higher count of deaths than normal and the big guy up top wanted to know why.

Kale wouldn't forget the pitying and concerned looks from his colleagues when he volunteered for the job. You would have thought he had just jumped up atop the table and took his own sword to his gut right there in front of everyone.  Hell, one of his fellow spies even confirmed this theory.

"You DO realize that nobody whose gone in there has ever come out unless its in a body bag... Most of the time, not even in that. They could put what was left of the bodies in a matchbox. And those were the lucky ones... "

Kale had merely grunted to let the guy know he had heard him before continuing on to prepare.
It was, in fact, well known of the seemingly impossible odds of coming out of Black Hat manor alive. Many entered. Few left. But Kale was confident somehow that he would be one of the few to leave with his life.
Insolent? Most definitely. But could anyone have talked him out of it?... No.

He slipped past the wrought iron gate with textbook ease and scaled the front yard without so much as a turret popping out or lasers.

Huh... They were making things too easy for him.

Smirking, he lock-picked the door and entered the house but as soon as he did, he almost immediately felt a wave of unease hit him like nausea.
This was too easy.... And that couldn't mean anything good.
Didn't a very powerful demonic arms broker live here and a scientist?

What the hell was up with the lack of security then?

Ignoring his growing apprehension, Kale started down the halls, scoping out each room and corner for any clues or signs of life but fell utterly short...
That is, until he reached the end of the hall on the second floor...
He had been eyeing the door to the front left of him but suddenly, his instincts blared in warning, causing him to whip around and lock eyes with the presence on the other end of the hall.

....

By what he could see, it was a girl, if you omitted a few very obvious features that said otherwise.

For one, perched atop her head full of wild black hair were a pair of skeletal deer antlers.
Second, her skin, minus the forearms down which were ashen colored like her hands had been rolled in soot, was pale. So pale that it was white with an almost bluish tint, as if the girl had been recently frozen in a block of ice, though she had a rather warm looking fur slung around her shoulders. Tattered and ragged clothes could be seen slightly beneath the folds of the furry mantle.
Third, and most startling of all was her face, but this also was the feature that truly confirmed to Kale that what he was looking at wasn't human... At least... Not anymore.
