They say evil queens are the princesses that were never saved. Nothing could be more true.
I was walking through the crowded, rowdy streets of the Isle, which were bumpy, rough, and littered with leftover trash and decay. An unforgiving slew of heartless people- or monsters, depending on when, in your opinion, a criminal becomes a monster- jostled, pushed, and swatted me out of the way. I fell hard, crashing to the rough concrete. I held my head high and started to pull myself up, only to literally be stepped all over as I lay in a vulnerable heap on the cold, hard ground.
"Just get to Daughter Gothel's place," I told myself. "Get there and you'll be safe and protected. One foot in front of the other."
Of course, I knew the harsh truth- that I wasn't safe anywhere on the Isle, even in a private tower completely isolated from the rest of the world. How I wished that I could isolate myself from the rest of this world, too. At least the crowds would start to relent and disappear when I got to the overgrown tower, and I'd be with my best friend. Someone who cared about me.
I got back up and brushed off the arid, sterile dust that had gotten on my high-collared leather jacket and in my mess of blue-black hair.
I ran as quickly as I could to somewhere safe before bumping into a decrepit and disgruntled boy. He stole my crown, with a wry smile, and ran off. I chased after him in surprise.
"Why did you do that?," I confronted.
He snorted. "Well," he said sarcastically, "Welcome to the Isle."
"Give it back!," I demanded, standing my ground.
"What, you think you're a little princess or something?," he teased and sneered.
"My mother is a queen. Not only that, my brother is a storybook PRINCE. Your standard love-at-first-sight, larger-than-life, love-serenade, rescue-the- damsel, slay-monsters-with-a-sword level prince. So yes, I actually AM a fairy-tale princess,"I retorted.
"Then you don't BELONG HERE,"he gibed, tossing me the crown and running away.
It was true, at least. My brother was able to live in Auradon, and was given a spot among all the best, most elite princes. But I was still here.
I closed my eyes in resignation and trudged halfheartedly to my friend's tower.
