"Oh my god! Shailene! It's Shailene!" Charlotte's voice could finally escape the iron bars in which it was caged until now. She was stunned by the horrific yell. From her heart to her bones deep beneath her skin were vibrating with dread fear; fear of eyewitnessing what might not be something to see, fear of her friend's utter cry. And at last, fear of losing her best friend.

Shailene White and Charlotte Watson were childhood friends as Shailene's mother looked after little Charl after her father's untimely death in the field. Charl never had a mom because the lady who gave birth to her fled with another man when she was just seven. It was a heart-clenching experience for her. But, fate had a beautiful way of apologizing to her; it brought her Shailene, the girl with a kind and warm heart. The day Charl went to her best friend's house, her jaw unfixed and fell on the floor. It was too big to have five souls in it.Shailene had a nice elder sister who happened to be mentally special; so Charl never did anything to offend her. She looked after her as she was a little baby. Shailene had everything fortunate in her life while Charlotte was a mere burden on her mother's elegant shoulders. She never ever thought about her own mom again after Aunt Rebecca took her in; but before that, she used to sit on her mother's bed and cry all night hugging a pillow while her father was out somewhere fighting with a dismayed heart. She used to ponder how it would be to have a mother who would care for her, nourish her and love her. And it was what she got when her fate sympathized with her poor condition. Yet she considered herself as an extra responsibility and load for Aunt Rebecca. She loved her new family more with each striking of the clock. They became the part of her life. Her first true love was Shailene as usual as she was the only girl Charl got to know closely. But, she never confessed her true confused admiration to her and kept on pretending to be a best friend. So instead of hugging Shailene tight, she kept a minimum distance between them just to make sure she didn't ruin their growing attachment. The love she kept hiding under the fake facade she wore was secure when she claimed Ginger as her girlfriend. She didn't bypass the fact that she was a gay, instead, she blossomed it in front her first lover cum best friend's eyes.

But that hackneyed image of being just her friend now ruled out as soon as she heard the helpless cry of Shailene, her love. She could not think about what Ginger or Prisa would think of her rather she focused on a plan to save Shailene. Charlotte was confused, overwhelmed, fatigued; she needed to save her.

Tiptoeing towards that red car, those four friends, moved forward. There, standing behind the horizontal car was a trembling Shailene; eyes fixed inside it and face pale. Charlotte huffed with pure relief as soon as she saw her safe and sound. But only one doubt remained inside her chest, poking her guts with jitters. What was there which could shake the brave girl she knew for so long?

"Shailene, hold on there. We have to climb this car to reach you. Don't worry we are here." Zade tried to soothe her. The red car was blocking the road; they could not see it until now as the whole area was lost in massive smoke; on this wintry night, it was possible though.

Zade did not want to lose any of his friends. Before them, there was no one who he could call a friend. He knew how kind and soft-hearted Shailene was and he could not let her witness something horrible alone. After all, he had a huge crush on her secretly. He used to watch her from a distance, and think how her lips made way for teeth to show when she smiled. He celebrated her beauty, her laugh and worshipped her heart.

And finally, he knew Prisa was not perfect for her; he never loved her the way he had. He was hellbent on making Shailene trust on him one day. Shailene was girl ho believed in love happened only once and never again. So, she told him if Prisa left her or cheated on her, she would walk away and never appear on the path of love. It was how she was; pure, innocent yet stubborn. She was the strongest woman Zade had ever come across. She was a rare gem; a precious species.
