Jack arrived in Glenfall just after midday. The sun was at its highest and the bright beams of light shone down hastily onto the back of Jack's neck. He lifted his tired arms up and rubbed the now pink patch with his hand, immediately regretting the action when a sharp stinging pain shot down his spine. He quickly ripped one of the cloths from the side of his bag and placed it over the sore patch, only seeming to make the situation worse when he realised the material was black and would only cause for the part of his exposed skin to get even hotter. He couldn't win. He left the cloth there none the less in hope that it, despite being hot, I would at least stop sunburn for now.
Jack stood in awe at the castle gates he had arrived upon. He stopped dead in his tracks and craned his sore neck upwards, wincing in pain, but continuing to lift his eyes up at the vast expanse of brick above him. His mother had once taken him to the castle when he was a baby but that was 20 years ago and he hadn't been since. A small but noticeable smirk played silently on his lips as he slipped past the guard, seeming to be a normal citizen-to which he was-and continued on through the courtyard.
It was only when he saw the collection of wood and the crowd of people in the courtyard centre that Jack's heart sunk. His eyes grew wide and his breathing heavy. It appeared that a small woman was shrieking and being dragged towards the pile and he knew all to well why. As only to conform his suspicions, the King stepped out onto his balcony overlooking the scene. "This woman's as caught breaking the highest of the laws here in Glenfall. She was found to be practicing magic." He announced. "When I took over this kingdom, magic was rife and would destroy everything in it's paths. Those caught practicing magic now will be imprisoned and burnt to the stake, so let this be a warning to you all."
The old woman had been struggling but to her dismay, the witch had been tied securely to a pole in the middle of the wooden pile. Jack wondered why she hadn't attempted to escape using magic or why no others had in the pasts, for he surely would have at least tried but little did he know, being shielded from it his whole life, Jack's power was special, the most feared and powerful of them all. Unlike any others, he had the power to move objects, push people away and freeze time with just the blink of an eye, any other normal sorcerer had to utter the tongue of the old religions to perform such a task and many did not know them from heart.
So Jack continued to watch in horror as the King gave a short, crisp nod of his head and the pile went up in flames, taking the witch with them. The screams could be heard from miles away and Jack took a gulp. Maybe coming here wasn't such a good idea.
Only 3 people in the world knew of what Jack could do, those being his mother, his close friend Danny and well..his father used to know, before he had disappeared and been presumed dead. Not even his sister, May, knew.
Jack got over the sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach and walked past the scene which was now being deserted and stumbled into the castle. He didn't think it would be that easy and he hadn't once yet been questioned by guards as to where he was going.
"E-excuse me," Jack tried to interject as servent upon servant walked past him, all seemingly not noticing him. He had all but lost hope of finding the King's physician when he felt a tap on his back. The tall raven haired boy span around faster than the speed of light, almost knocking the small girl behind him off of her feet.
Thankfully, he grabbed her in time. "I'm so sorry." He apologised. God could things be any worse.
The short, blonde haired girl smiled up at him, blue eyes glimmering. Her hair was tied neatly into plaits around the edge of her head and if she hadn't have been wearing maids clothing, he would have mistaken her for the Lady Taylor. "It's ok." She smiled, "you just looked a bit lost."
