I wake up from the banging at my door. I rub my eyes and go open it. It was Helio.
"What are you doing here?"
"You left your bag in my car and I wanted to give it back to you" he hands it to me. I kinda feel bad that I have been really snappy with him even though he's been so nice to me.
"Oh, thanks" I take it from him
"So, this is your place?" he looks around like a curious puppy.
"Yep. this is it"
"So, Selene, where are your parents?" he asks extra curiously.
"What's it to you?" I snap at him. I don't like talking about my parents that's why I don't even show anyone my apartment because I live alone. Then I would have to explain why I live alone.
"Before I came up here. I asked the lady on the first floor where you live and if your parents were home so I could give the bag to them"
I freeze in place. He knows.
"She told me that you don't live with anyone. That you live alone and your parents are nowhere to be seen" he tries to make eye contact with me, but I avoid him. "Selene, where are your parents?"
I take a deep breath trying to calm myself. Who does he think he is? Asking me all these personal questions when I don't even know him.
"Like I said, they haven't been home for a while"
