Alexia's POV:
Somewhere outside the darkness, something was beeping. I shifted and rolled over, hoping that Beck would wake up and turn it off. I sighed and reached to nudge him, but my hand groped empty air.
Something wasn't right.
I tried to open my eyes to find the source of the beeping myself, but I just couldn't. And then all of a sudden the beeping wasn't just beeping anymore. No there were voices on voices, some whispering, some shouting. But they were all talking at once and I still couldn't open my goddamn eyes and know one told me what was going on.
And then the screaming started.
The beeping started to slow. And the voices turned to ringing.
And then silence.
It had begun.

Beck's POV:
I pushed Atlas like I had never pushed him before. My heels dug into his sides, and one of my hands tangled in his mane as I clutched Alexia to me. She had just blacked out and god knows whatever that bitch had poisoned her with. I was flashing back to the last time she had blacked out on me, after I had pulled her from Dante's house and I couldn't go back there again.
I held her tight and bent my head to her chest to make sure she was still breathing, and sighed in relief when I felt her breath faintly against my cheek. I was looking down at her, briefly glancing up to see that Atlas was eating up the miles beneath his hooves, and feeling his sweat bleed through his saddle pad.
I used the pack link to update everyone what was happening, and practically screamed at Blake to get his ass to my house. By the fairly meek reply, I assumed he'd be there waiting for me. I commanded orders to the prison guards, and even though Alexia was revamping the prison system, I knew "Mrs. Clarke" would be treated humanely even if she didn't deserve it. I called another round of patrols to comb the woods. If Dante had gotten his mate into the packlands...he could get others in too.
And that's when I heard the howls.
He was coming.
****************************
The lights above me were too bright to be natural. And it was too quiet to be normal.
I blinked the sleep from my eyes and moved to sit up. But I stopped suddenly when my muscles screamed in protest and a sharp, brutal pain sent a flash of white through my eyes.
I choked on a scream and doubled over, clutching my stomach. Oh god. Peanut. It was happening. There were knives cleaving my stomach in two, ripping me open from the inside out. The pain was blinding and my traitorous body let itself get torn apart once more.
I looked around the room, an infirmary suite, to find Lauren and Emma sitting in chairs opposite my bed whispering anxiously. Tears filled Emma's eyes and Lauren was stroking her hand. They hadn't noticed I was up yet, but when the scream in my throat wrenched itself free, their heads snapped to look at me.
"Where the hell is my mate?" I ground out and forced myself to breathe, "Or I don't know maybe a doctor?" I groaned and clutched my stomach hard.
"Lexi, oh god you're alive," Lauren whispered and tears streamed down her cheeks
"Very much alive and very much in labor. I need Beck. I need him," I gasped, and they exchanged glances. "Someone get me Beck. Now. I need him now. Call Blake. The baby is coming."
"Alexia I think it's just from being poisoned," Emma said, gently but she was cut off as another wave of pain hurricaned through my body and I let out a strangled moan.
