CHAPTER 25

Jessica's POV

Austin and I drove around LA for hours, seeing all of the things i'd only dreamed about or seen pictures of. Although too soon, the night came and the fun had to end. "So, where to?" Austin said, I racked my brain, Demi had given me her address last time she visited me in treatment, but I didn't know if she wanted me there, no one wants me. As soon as that realization hit me burst into tears, further mortifying myself. "Hey! Woah! It's okay, I get it. You can stay at my house." I shook my head and jumped out of the car, "No it's fine... I-I know a place." Austin sighed, "No, get it the car. You and I both know that you have no place to go. So get it the car and you're staying with me. Los Angeles is dangerous at night." With no counter argument, I got in the jeep and we drove away.

I walked through Austin's house in a daze, everything was so expensive looking. Austin walked into the bedroom with a bundle of clothes. "Here, you can change into these, I know you don't have other clothes so you can just put them in the hamper and I'll get them washed. I nodded and blushed when I realized the bundle was his clothes. "Thanks, you really didn't have to do all of this." He smiled, and shrugged, "I want to, I like helping people.... and I'd like to get to know you." I couldn't help the deeper blush that crept onto my face, "Well thanks. You seem really nice, and I'd like to get to know you too." Austin grinned, "Well I'll see you in the morning."

I woke up to the light streaming onto my face. I looked around the unfamiliar setting and last night came flooding back into my memory. Footsteps broke my daze and I turned to see Austin standing in the doorway in rumpled pajamas and his hair sticking up all over the place. "Hey you're up!" I nodded sleepily and he grinned, "Whattaya want for breakfast?" Immediately I froze, food. Without being forced to eat, the temptation to not eat was stronger than ever. "I-I'll have whatever you're having." Austin nodded, "Sure, uhhh, the bathroom is the first door on the right and your clothes are hanging in there, you can shower and stuff." I almost giggled at his awkwardness, "Thanks!" I got up and walked over to the door he'd pointed to. "Oh.. thanks again.. for everything." HE nodded, "No problem, it's the least I could do."

After cleaning up and eating breakfast with Austin I decided it was time to go see Demi. "Austin?" He looked up from his phone, "Yeah?" "Do you know Demi Lovato?" His smile grew, "Yeah... Why?" I chewed on my lip nervously. "Well... I know her from my hometown and she's kind of the reason I came to California Do you think you could help me find her?" His face looked thoughtful for a second, "I have an award show tomorrow, she should be there. I think she's performing... You can go as my date if you want?" I squealed and hugged him tightly, "Thank you so much! " Austin laughed and hugged me back, "It's not problem Jess, I'm happy to help!"

~*~

So how do you know Demi?" I looked up from the book I was reading and hesitated, debating on weather or not to tell him about me. "Treatment." Austin's brow furrowed, then he nodded, It was silent for a minute while I deciphered his reaction. Then he spoke, "I know by the way." I looked at him, "About what?" Austin glanced down, "I saw your wrists, and the way you were almost forcing yourself to eat breakfast, and dinner... and I'm guessing lunch too." I sighed, of course he saw them, "It's just harder for me than other people." He smiled and took my hand, "It's not biggie, I mean we all make mistakes right? They don't make us bad people." I nodded, "You're absolutely right."

~*~

I nervously picked at my dress and checked me hair for the thousandth time. Austin smiled, "Don't worry, you look beautiful." My eyes met his in the mirror and my heart fluttered in my chest, "Thanks Austin." He stared at me for a couple of seconds then cleared his throat, "We should get going." I nodded, and followed him to the car.

"So what's this called again?" I asked Austin, trying to make conversation in the in the hour long car ride. He smiled, "The AMA's. Demi's set to perform but don't worry, I'll find her for you." I nodded, and leaned into him, hugging his body. "Thank you for everything Austin, I don't know what I would've done without you." His arms wrapped around me hugging me back tightly, "You're welcome."

Soon, the SUV we were in began to slow down and Austin turned towards me, "Okay... if a reporter asks, we're friends and we're from the same hometown. You're excited to be here and hope I win." I cocked an eyebrow at the last bit, "And what if I'm not and I don't?" He chuckled, "Then my publicist will kick you off of the red carpet." My stomach dropped, "R-Red carpet?" I nearly yelled. Austin jumped, "Well yeah, I didn't tell you?" I shook my head and rubbed my face, "Austin I can't do this." My head started pounding, my breathing became quick and shallow. Oh shit, pull yourself together Jessica. "Jessica calm down. Breath. You're okay, I'm gonna be right next to you the entire time I promise." I looked into Austin's warm green eyes and a sense of calm rushed through me, "Okay."
