CHAPTER 4: PAINTING A PORTRAIT

Marinette's POV:

"Mari!" I heard Alya call. "It's time to pose for your royal painting!"

"Coming!" I called back.

I walked down the stairs to the throne room to see a boy there. He looked about my age with bright red hair covering his eye. he had an easel set up and paints in his hand.

"Mari, this is Nathaniel." Alya said. "He'll be doing your portrait."

"Nice to meet you, your highness." Nathaniel bowed.

"You too." I tried to curtsy, but just ended up falling. As I said, I'm clumsy. "So, where would you like to do the portrait?"

"It's up to you." he said.

Why do you think I asked YOU?!

"Um, is here OK?" I asked.

"If that's where you'd like it." he said.

I looked at him  with a look that said, I called YOU here for a reason.

"I'm sorry your grace," he said. "I've never done paintings for royalty. I'm really nervous, and I just want you to be happy!"

"That's fine!" I said. "I'm still new to being a princess. So why don't you tell me what you'd like to do?"

"Well, if you stand next to the throne, I think the light would be perfect there..." Nathaniel started to tell me where he wanted me to be.

Just then, a girl with a yellow gown and a blond ponytail sashayed in. Her name was Chloe. She was some kinda ambassador's daughter that hung around here a lot. I think she also had a thing for Knight Adrien.

"What's this rat doing here?" she asked, looking at Nathaniel.

"He's not a rat. He's a painter." I said.

"Well, whatever he's gonna paint is gonna look horrible! You should've hired Franswa', MY royal painter. He painted this: " Chloe pulled out a very small canvas.

It was tiny, yet it was the most beautiful portrait I'd ever seen. It had such detail on a tiny canvas.

"This rat can never compare to this!" Chloe said.

"She's right..." Nathaniel sniffled. He burst into tears and ran away.

"Wait!" I cried. I turned to Chloe. "Chloe! Get outta here!".
