Kristina's POV
" James!" I screamed running down the stairs. When I saw him I literally launched myself at him.
" Hi Kristina." he chuckled, " Don't you think your a little old to do this?"
I was hanging onto him for dear life. I was so excited to see him but he was right. A fifteen year old girl shouldn't launch herself at someone just for a hug. So I let go and bounded over to Sam who was chuckling at my energy.
" Hello, my name's Sam." he said to James.
" I'm..." James started.
" James. Kristina talks about you all the time." he said, with a huge smile.
James gave me a " I knew you missed me" look. I giggled and looked back at Sam.
" I'm hungry." I whined.
" Just like old Kristina." James stated nudging me with his elbow.
" What's for dinner?" Sam asked.
" Roast chicken." Jackie yelled from the kitchen.
" YUM!" we all yelled as we ran to the dining room.
Just like old times, I took the end of the table while James chose the one on the left of me. Sam took the right of me and the food was placed on the table. There was a lovely roast chicken with salad and potatoes.
While we were eating, I asked Jackie, " When's Robs funeral?"
" Tomorrow." she replied.
" I'm really sorry for you." Sam said.
" Someone dies, Someone's born." James said simply.
" Yea, but you always think it's someone else who goes, but to someone else, we're someone else." I said sadly.
" Yea, but it's okay, we're all together." James said.
" Sam, does it mind if we say a prayer?" Jackie asked.
" No, it's okay." he replied.
" Okay, everyone stand up." Jackie ordered and we all stood up.
We all grabbed each others hands and Jackie motioned me to do my infamous prayer.
"Rubber dub dub, thanks for the grub, Amen."
Sam and James chuckled at my prayer and I giggled a bit. It was the prayer I always used to do at James' house. It never got old. We laughed and talked and ate just like when I lived here. Jackie acted as if Sam were part of the family. It really was reassuring.
" Wow, 9 o'clock already!" I yawned. I never could stay up late.
Sam sneaked up behind me and snaked his arms around my waist, " We best be off then." he said. Sam pecked my cheek before he picked me up. When I turned around to say good night to James, he had a frown on his face.
" Night James!" I yelled down the stairs.
" Night." he replied grumpily.
Sam walked into the guest room and plopped me on the bed.
" What was up with him?" Sam asked, taking his shirt off.
" I don't know. Why do you sleep in your boxers?" I replied.
" Because."
" I'ma go change into my PJ's." I said as I went in the walk-in closet. I chose some fuzzy pyjama pants and a top with a kitten on it.
What was up with James. He couldn't be jealous, could he? No, he's my best friend he should be happy, shouldn't he? Boys are confusing.
Sam's POV
I sneaked up behind Kristina after dinner and slipped my arms around her waist. She was beautiful her bright blue eyes , her beautiful red hair. I just couldn't stay away from her. She yawned and showed her beautifully white teeth.
" We best be off then." I said.
I pecked her flawless, rosy red cheek and picked her up to carry her up the stairs. Before I made my way up the stairs, I glanced over at James. He was frowning, at me. What did I do? Unless.. No that won't be it.
I walked up the stairs and once I made it to the top, Kristina yelled down the stairs.
" Night James!"
" Night." he replied grimly.
What is up with him? I thought as I put Kristina down on the bed and started taking off my shirt.
" I don't know. Why do you sleep in your boxers?" she said.
I really have to stop thinking out loud.
" Because." I shrugged answering her question.
" I'ma go change into my PJ's." she said before she disappeared into the closet.
I sat on the bed and put my head in my hands. What if James is jealous? I can't stay here for a month if my girlfriends best friend hates me. I'll talk to him tomorrow.
" What's up?" Kristina asks.
" Nothing." I reply trying to act like nothing happened.
" What's bothering you?" She asked gently. She knew me well.
" I was just thinking about James." I said glumly.
" It'll be fine in the morning, I promise." She said persuading.
" OK." I gave in.
She sat down on my lap and pressed her lips against mine. For a while, it was like Kristina and I we're the only people in the world. When she pulled away sighed and lay down in the bed. She stood up to go around the other side but I grabbed her waist. I lifted her up above me then had her land next to me on the bed. She giggled as I pulled her in close to me.
" Good night beautiful." I whispered in her ear.
" Nighty Night."
Kristina fell asleep almost instantly but I stayed up, thinking about James. What would I say to him tomorrow. It's already going to be sad enough with Rob's funeral. Finally , I let my body drift into the lovely world of sleep where nothing was wrong.
***
At breakfast this morning, James was glaring at me.
" So, how did you two sleep last night?" Jackie asked trying to make some conversation.
" Just fine thank you." Kristina replied.
I just nodded my head in agreement as I ate my bacon. James was staring at Kristina very intently and it was starting to piss me off. When we finished breakfast, I walked over to James.
" Hey, James, mind if we talk?" I asked.
" Yea sure."
We walked to the entry way and walked out of the door. It was a beautiful day.
" So, what's up?" James asked me.
" No offence or anything, but it seems sorta like you don't like me datng Kristina." I tried to say gently.
" Just treat her well please?"
" Pardon me?"
" She's had bad times with boys."
" How?"
" I'll tell you later."
I nodded my head and James walked back in. What could've happened?
