I'm just gonna tell u guys that this, in fact, IS part of the story

THIS IS PART OF THE ACTUAL STORYLINE

---------------------

Max's POV

---------------------

My hands were sweaty when I was sitting on the docs, I kept thinking 'Did Y/n get the note? Maybe she didn't see it? What if I just end up sitting here all night? Jesus Christ, all this about one girl? What is wrong with me!' The thoughts would have kept going if Y/n hadn't interrupted them.

"Uhm... Max? Uhh... The letter you gave me was... really sweet. Thank you." She stuttered. I could feel my face grow red.

"Oh, yeah... It was nothing really." I responded while shrugging my shoulders. There was an awkward silence between us, until Y/n asked, "Uhm, so... Why did you ask me down here exactly?"

My eyes widened, 'Of course! How could I have forgotten the reason I asked her to meet me here?' I thought. "Right," I sighed, "Okay, so do you have anything against going in the woods with me?" I asked hopefully.

Y/n's face grew red, but she was able to come up with a witty response, "Unless you're going to kidnap or kill me, no." She laughed nervously.

My face went slack before I realized she was joking, "Oh! Oh, right. Haha..." There was another pause. "Okay then, follow me," I commanded as I stood up, and walked toward the woods, but Y/n wasn't really following me, she was walking right next to me.

I didn't realize how close we were until I felt her shoulder brush mine. Y/n looked really nervous, she was constantly glancing around and kept on looking over her shoulder. Once, when we were walking an owl 'whooed' and I swear I heard Y/n whimper.

"You alright?" I asked, for some reason, I'm genuinely concerned about her. I wanted to know what was wrong, and how to make it better- I felt like David. Gross.

"Uhh... Yeah. I, umm... I just don't like the woods at night. It's creepy." She smiled weakly, even though the pale moonlight I could tell that she was blushing at the fact that she basically just confessed that she was scared of the dark.

Instead of making fun of her, which I normally would have, I tried to calm Y/n. "It's okay, there's nothing in the woods at night that wouldn't be there during the day." I soothed.

"Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of." Y/n mumbled. I'm not sure If she wanted me to hear it or not, but I didn't comment. Soon we got to the natural stone wall.

I sighed, "Okay I know this is going to sound weird, but we need to climb this wall- I, uh, I have a surprise for you up there. I pointed upward.

Y/n nodded, "Do you know how to climb?" She asked me.

Truth be told, I did not, but whenever I came up to this spot, I would always use the same route when climbing the wall. "Not professionally," I confessed.

Y/n smiled, "Beat you to the top, Maxie." She nicknamed me, running ahead and practically jumping from ledge to ledge on the wall.

"Hey, Mountain Goat! That's not fair!" I teased as I slowly started climbing.

Obviously, Y/n got to the top before I did, I wished she hadn't, I had a whole entire skit ready. The wall was taller than most of the trees so when you get to the top (because there are no towns around in every direction for about 20 miles- trust me I know) you get to see the most beautiful view of the stars.

Y/n had her mouth gaped open as she stared at the worlds above her. I'm not going to lie- if I were rating cute things on a scale of 1 to 10, she would be a 12. I had set up a small picnic with some food I had stolen from the Counselors Cabin.

"Max..." Y/n paused, taking her gaze away from the stars and landing it on me, she was smiling really wide for a girl that's scared of the dark, "Max, this is amazing! How did you find this place?" Y/n asked with wonder in her eyes.

I chuckled and motioned for her to sit next to me on the picnic blanket. "David showed it to me, he said it might help with anger management or some shit, but I usually just come here when I can't sleep or when I just don't want to do camp activities."

Y/n nodded, "So it's like you're hiding spot?" She questioned.

I shook my head, no. "It's like our hiding spot." After realizing how flirtatious that sounded, my face grew redder than it already was. 'Jesus Christ, really smooth, Max.' I had thought to myself while mentally facepalming.

Y/n 'awwed', and then asked, "Do Nikki and Neil know about this place?" She said while taking a bite out of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich I had made.

"Nope, nobody else knows," I told her honestly.

Y/n furrowed her eyebrows and shook her head in confusion, "Then why are you showing it to me? Why am I special?" She asked.

I laughed, really long, and really hard, "Did you not read the letter?" I questioned, "I wanted to repay you for sacrificing yourself back at Camp Wood Scouts."

Y/n still didn't get it, "But it really was no big deal! All I did was flirt, and sleep, and then you guys came to get me! I didn't do anything huge, anyone could have done it." She confessed.

Y/n must be the most modest person on this planet. 'Jesus Christ, just take the thank you, you little stupid girl-woman thing!'  My mind shouted.

"You see, Y/n, there are the keywords, could have. You are the only one that did." I smiled, "That's why I'm thanking you, if it weren't for you- the Wood Scouts would have my ass."

Y/n laughed, "Who would want that?" She teased.

"Hey!" I laughed, slightly offended.

Y/n and I talked and laughed for a long time, soon our eyelids began to get heavy, and reluctantly we packed up our small picnic, and headed back to our tents. I walked Y/n to hers.

"Goodnight, Y/n," I whispered before she headed into her tent. "Goodnight, Maxie." She whispered back, smiling.

Y/n stood up on her tippy toes and pecked my cheek before running into her, and Nikki's tent. I felt my hand subconsciously move towards the spot where she had kissed.

A smile spread across my face as I walked back to my tent, my hand pretty much glued to the special spot.

Laying down in bed I realized, 'Oh my god... I like Y/n.'
