"G cut it out you're pissing me off," I pouted, smacking my hand at Gerard to shoo him away from me. He was wafting pancakes in my face, insisting that I eat breakfast.
"It's the most important meal of the day!" he sulked. "I got up early and made them for you, you're eating for two now you know!"
"I'm gonna puke," I said, feeling an acidic sensation rush up my throat, leaving me little time to rush to the bathroom and throw up. Being pregnant is both wonderful and horrific. Everyone constantly telling me that I'm glowing is always nice to hear, and I couldn't help but admire my baby bump as it grew day by day. Not only that, but just knowing that Gerard's baby is inside there is the most incredible feeling in the world. At the same time, I had constant back pain, morning sickness and a horrible issue with mood swings. Gerard had been taking a lot of attitude from me over the past few months, and I think he was looking forward to getting the baby out of me so that I would be a little happier. As I was now six months pregnant, I was starting to become seriously uncomfortable. I couldn't sleep comfortably at night after spending so many years of my life only sleeping comfortably on my stomach. I couldn't eat anything without feeling sick and my constant pregnancy cravings for ice cream was making me gain more weight than I had hoped for. I felt disgusting a lot of the time, but Gerard always stared at me as if I were something better.
"Beautiful," he said, as if he were telling me the word that I was looking for in my mind to describe what he thought when he looked at me. "You're so beautiful."
"I'm fat," I laughed, as I waddled back into the lounge after cleaning up my morning sickness. "I want ice-cream."
"Didn't you just puke?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. He looked so cute in the mornings. Hell, he looked cute all the fucking time.
"It passes after I puke, gimme the ice-cream," I insisted, holding out my hands and waving them towards me to signal that I wanted Gerard to bring me the ice cream. Laughing to himself, he left the room and came back minutes later with a bowl full of chocolate ice cream.
"You couldn't have just brought the whole tub?" I whined, looking at the pitiful portion that he had provided me. "Are you trying to tell me that I'm gaining weight?"
"No, baby no," he said, looking sheepish. "You, uh, you finished the tub."
"You bought that last night!" I gasped.
"Yeah," he laughed. "I'll run to the store and get you some more, just hold tight."
Before I had a chance to say anything else, he had run out of the door. Gerard had been amazing for the past few months. He had done anything and everything that I had requested, and even if I insisted that he didn't do it, he would do it. He stayed up late with me when I couldn't sleep and made sure that I fell asleep before he did. He fetched me anything that I was craving and he had cut out caffeine and smoking just because I had to. The first few weeks were a little rough, what with two smokers no longer smoking- it's safe to say we were cranky. But we were well on our way to being parents.
Frank and Jamia had been battling with becoming new parents of two babies at once but they were like some kind of super-breed of human. They were constantly tired, but they did everything and they did it well. Every time I went round to their house one of them would be sleeping while the other took care of the babies as if they were working shifts in order to make sure everything ran smoothly. Their daughters were so gorgeous and quiet, they never cried but they required plenty of attention. I decided to waddle over there whilst Gerard was picking me up some ice-cream.
"Ice-cream!" I shouted as I walked through their front door, which was never locked. Gerard, Jamia, Frank and I would pass through each other's homes frequently, as if we all lived together.
"Coming right up!"
Frank emerged into his kitchen with babies held in both of his arms. Lily was sound asleep but Cherry was grabbing at his chin and tugging at his hair, which was growing long.
"I feel like Cherry is telling me to get a haircut," he grinned, before placing Lily in her crib and passing Cherry to my arms. She looked up at me with her wide, shining hazel eyes and a huge smile spread over her tiny face.
"Aunty Izzy is here to visit," Frank said in a tone of motherese. "You wanna pull at her hair now Cherry, instead of mine?"
Cherry erupted into laughter. It was so contagious and so beautiful that it made me want to cry. I was crying before I even realized that it was going to happen.
"I don't miss those baby hormones," came the familiar voice of Jamia as she walked into the kitchen, smiling at me. "I cried at EV-ER-Y-THING when I was pregnant. I swear to God, Frankie thought I was insane."
She walked over to Frank and kissed him softly. I looked at the two of them as they smiled through kissing and my crying subsided until I felt sane again. I placed Cherry in her crib beside Lily and stared at how beautiful they really were. They looked like Frank so much.
Frank passed me a bowl of ice-cream and I fulfilled my pregnancy craving by shovelling it down in less than two minutes. At that moment, Gerard walked in, a tub of Ben & Jerry's in hand.
"Frank," he said with a sincere tone. "I cannot apologise enough for my wife coming into your home and taking your ice-cream." He kept a stern face until he and Frank both burst out laughing.
"Hey!" Jamia snapped in a joking but scary tone. "You make a lady pregnant and you WILL give her what she wants. If you don't get it to her quick enough, she WILL rob your neighbours. You're just lucky that your neighbours don't mind."
"Thank you!" I exclaimed at Jamia for defending me, before grabbing the Ben & Jerry's from Gerard and getting to work on it.
"So, do you guys know the sex of the baby?" Frank asked, trying to take some ice-cream from me but he was deterred by the angry glare that I gave his outstretched hand as it got too close to my bowl.
"Gerard does," I said. "He wrote it on a piece of paper and put it in his pocket for when I can't bear to wait any longer. I always wanted to keep it a secret, but I keep thinking about baby names and it's starting to drive me crazy."
"I do know," Gerard grinned, mouthing something at Frank and Jamia. They both gasped and squealed before looking at me with emotional expressions.
"Don't tell me!" I shouted, getting up and quickly waddling back to my own house, ice-cream in hand.
Later that night, Gerard and I were curled up together on the couch, the fireplace roaring.
"For a boy, I want to name him after Mikey," Gerard said, pretending he didn't know the gender of our baby. "And for a girl, I want to name her Holly."
"Like my friend from NYU Holly?" I said.
"Yes," he nodded. "I like that name."
"So tell me Gerard," I said, resting my head on his chest and looking up at his eyes. "In three months time, are we gonna have a Michael Jr. in the house? Or are we going to have a Holly?"
"You really want to know?" he asked, running his fingers through my hair and gazing at me with a smile upon his face. I nodded. He looked contemplative for a short while, before grinning widely.
"Holly," he said. "We're having a daughter."
