"You worthless runt! You're nothing but a pain!"
She slapped me harshly on the cheek. My face, red, like the tips of fire.
Yet.
I felt no pain.
My body is numb to the pain. Consuming harm was something it did on a daily basis.
"Why can't you just be normal?!" My father shouted.
"David, it's just a phase," My mother said to my father, placing her hand on his shoulder to calm him.
"Right?" She asked me.
I said nothing.
"Answer your mother!" My father shouted forcefully, spitting on me in the process.
I just stared.
He picked me up by the shirt and threw me back to the cold kitchen floor.
"David!" My mother gasped.
"What?!" He snapped at her.
My mother visibly bit her lip. Cautious of her next words.
She said nothing.
Father turned back towards me, still on the floor.
"I will tell you one last time, young lady. This is just a phase. Get over it already, and stop being stubborn!"
"It's not!" I spat back. I bit my tongue. I don't know what came over me.
Father slapped me again.
He crouched down to my level and grabbed my hair with his rough hands.
He forced me to my feet and dragged me upstairs.
All. The way. To the Attic.
The cold. Dark. Attic.
He threw me to the ground once more. He turned around to shut the door, but he stopped and turned his head towards me. His body still. Like a statue.
A terrifying statue.
"You're a disgrace to this family."
With that, he slammed the door shut. I could hear the door make a clicking sound. Locked.
This was my everyday routine.
By the time he passed out in the chair and my mother let me out, I did my homework and passed out on my bed.
