"If you close that door I swear you'll never see me again." Matty spoke with a clenched jaw, looking straight ahead and through the patio view.
Abby stood between the door, watching him."I mean it." He said.
"What if I don't care?" Abby said, almost shaking from frustration that she didn't know how to handle...which only continued to build itself with every word Matty said to her. Why couldn't he just be easy on her? Why couldn't he be gentle, and tender, and tell her he was sorry...or give her a hug for once... like men do in the films when they've hurt a woman.
"You do." He said.
The calmness in his tone provoked her. She walked back into the apartment, throwing her purse onto the couch and slamming the door. Matty's mouth formed a wide smirk, his eyes still fixed through the patio's view.
"You know what, I hate you! You're a selfish..." Abby longed for the words, and the courage to spit them out. "Selfish--"
"What? Say it." He stood up and took a step toward her, crossing his arms.
"Selfish ass! I hate you! I hate you, I hate you, I hate you!" She pushed him with all her might. He stepped back to catch himself, yet barely falling off his feet.
"Look, it was just a party, nothing more or less. It's not like I'm back into it." Matty grabbed his leather jacket off the arm rest of the sofa.
"Where are you going?" Abby watched him, almost breathless from trying to hold every bit of the tantrum she desired to throw back.
"I'll be back tonight...when you're calm." He said, pulling a box of ciggarettes from the pockets."Matty I'm not done, don't you think I'm upset because I care about you?! Don't you care that I'm upset at all in the first place?! This is what I mean, how are we going to continue like this?"
He ignored her and walked out of the door.
Abby didn't move, her heart racing in her chest, so rapid and fast that it ached. It felt as though her heart would beat out of her chest. She went to the kitchen and opened the fridge, grabbing the first thing she saw...alcohol.
She didn't drink, never had, never planned to in her life. But now was different. She wanted to make him feel the way he made herfeel when he came home high on coke lastnight, when he knew how much it would kill her inside to know that he'd intoxicate himself with such poison that could cost him his life more than anything else he did as. To know that it's something he could easily sell himself back over to.
She opened the bottle and downed as many sips as she could before the need to catch her breath. Her head spun right away as she sat the bottle down on the table...the taste was dreadful. She leaned over the table and took it all in, and to her surprise she actually felt alright. She ran upstairs, leaving the bottle right where it was. She grabbed onto the railing as she went, realizing that she wasn't as alright as she thought. She went to the bedroom and grabbed her fur coat, then headed back downstairs, trying to keep balance.
"Fucking asshole." She murmured under her breath, pushing her hair out of her face and grabbing her purse from the couch.
