Seven Years Old: First Accidental Magic

Ivy Beatrice woke up that day thinking it would be like any old day. She woke up the Ms. Higgins yelling at her to make breakfast as it was her and her roommate's turn to make breakfast.

Her roommate, Tommy, woke up immediately and began to put his day clothes on, putting his nighttime clothes under his deflated pillow. They each had two sets of clothes. The daytime clothes were washed once a week. Their nighttime clothes became their daytime clothes the next week.

Tommy shook Ivy to wake her up, he knew she was already awake but did not want to get out of bed. She got out and quickly changed into her day clothes.

Both of them walked down to the kitchen area. The breakfast for the morning was porridge that must be heated up as it was the middle of a cold winter. Ivy and Tommy mixed the two types of porridge as there was not enough of either to suffice alone. They placed the big pot on the stove and poured the porridges in and stirred.

"How are you liking it here?" Ivy asked Tommy, who had just come a month ago.

"It's better than where I was before" He replied solemnly looking at his worn-out trainers.

Ivy looked him straight in the eye and asked: "Where were you before here?"

"Iwaswithmyabusiveparents" Tommy mumbled very quickly.

They kept talking and the porridge lay forgotten on the hot stove before Tommy remembered. They tried to stir it and undo the burnt damage, but were unsuccessful. They fished the burnt pieces out with their small hands, scalding them in the process.

The other children came into the small kitchen area a few minutes later, sitting in a small circle on the floor. They were not talking, for they smelled a horrible smell and did not want to upset the matron further.

The matron walked down the stairs, from where she had a nice, comfortable flat upstairs. No children were allowed up there if they did not want a painful death. She sniffed the air and then glared at Ivy and Tommy. Suddenly Ivy's hair turned a dark green, she did not notice though, she was too scared to notice.

Ms. Higgins noticed though and became even angrier with the young girl. Ms. Higgins dragged her upstairs, her hair gaining orange streaks on the way. She was scared and confused.

The matron looked at her with glaring eyes, eyes that could turn your body to ice. It was a horrible stare. Ivy's shoulder length hair began to change color rapidly. Ivy held a piece in her small hand, she had just noticed.

Ms. Higgins glared at her once more and told her that she was a freak and did not deserve to be at the orphanage. She yelled at Ivy and slapped her across the face and told her that she was worthless and useless. She also said to Ivy that nobody would ever want her, that not even her parents did.

Ivy began to cry, her hair turning a very dark blue. Ms. Higgins hurried her down to the ground level, nearly pushing her down all of the stairs.

Barbara Higgins: 11th Birthday

Young Barbara Higgins waited in her backyard all day watching her older brother play Quidditch with his friends.

She was not interested in the Quidditch though, she was looking at the sky, waiting for her letter to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She stayed in the backyard until it was dark out, still waiting for her letter. No letter ever came.

Her family, a pureblood family, believing it was a mistake wrote the Hogwarts headmaster. He replied two and a half days later with a nasty letter revealing that Barbara was a squib.

Her parents had been extremely angry and decided that having a squib for a daughter was an unforgivable disgrace to their pureblood family. They threw her out of their home. She traveled the Diagon Alley and flooed into the United States, where she resided in a small orphanage.

Once the matron died, she passed the orphanage down to Barbara. Barbara had quickly become the matrons favorite because of her charm. Barbara created her last name, never wanting to hear the last name of the family that threw her out ever again. She then vowed to stomp the magic out of any children there.
