[JAKE]

The ballroom usually stood empty in the summer, but at the moment it was full of life. There was the live band up on the makeshift stage, and the tables that bordered the room were filled with food. Hushed chatter filled the air.

I stopped in the doorway and looked around for my friends.

The first person I noticed was Victoria.

And God, she looked dazzling.

Her dress was bright red and contrasted with her pale skin and blue eyes. The dress brushed the floor, and though I couldn't see her shoes, I knew she was wearing at least three inch heels. The dress hugged her newly developed curves that she normally kept hidden with baggy T-shirts. A ruby rested in the hollow of her throat.

And of course, her body was nothing compared to her face.

Her lips were painted a vibrant red that went well with her dress. There was a slight pink tint to her cheeks, and the shape of her eyes looked more pronounced. Her lashes looked fuller, framing her sparkling blue eyes. Her hair was up in an intricate bun with two locks of hair framing her face.

I caught her eye and smiled. She smiled back sweetly, before saying something to the person she was talking to. Sending him a smile, she turned away and walked towards me.

"You look great," She said, holding the lapels of my blazer and straightening it.

I blushed. "Thank you."

She beamed. "All of your colleagues are really nice. I talked to a bunch of them."

I raised an eyebrow. "And what did they say?"

"They congratulated me. And they told me that you can be an ass sometimes." She laughed."But I already knew that."

I smiled. "I'm not an ass. To you anyway."

She raised her eyebrows. "Are you sure about that?"

I found myself letting out a chuckle. "Okay, so I'm an ass sometimes."

Victoria grinned. "Can we go take pictures?" She asked, looking up at me hopefully.

Oh God, she was so pretty.

I blinked. "What?"

"Your father wanted pictures of us. There's a photographer outside."

I nodded. "Um, sure. Let's go."

Victoria took my hand, intertwining our fingers. I stared down at our clasped hands. Her hand was so small compared to mine.

She led me to our backyard, where I saw the photographer waiting.

The backyard was decorated with lights, making the swimming pool glitter back at us. The trees lined the sides, with lights among the leaves.

The photographer introduced himself as Michael before asking us to go and stand in between the two trees behind him. Victoria pulled me along, and I found myself laughing at how excited she was.

Victoria grinned. "Great, you're laughing! At least you won't look like an emotionless prick in the pictures."

"I'm not emotionless!"

"Then stop giving everyone that look!"

"It's not a look. It's just my face!"

Victoria laughed and turned to the photographer. "Right, but I like your face better when you're smiling."

I blushed, feeling relief when I realized she wasn't looking at me. I realized Michael was saying something and I had no idea what it was. Victoria nodded and turned back to me. She put her arm around me and looked up at me.
